I. CALL TO ORDER (2:15 p.m.) A. Roll Call (See attendance above) B. Approval of October 9, 2007 minutes Speaker Lawson called for a motion to approve the October 9, 2007 minutes. Senator Lynch so motioned, seconded by Senator Haessler. A vote was taken. Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association unanimously approves the October 9, 2007 minutes as written. II. SPEAK TO THE SENATE There was no one to speak to the senate. III. REPORTS A. Senator Reports Senator Haessler… ACUI Conference – she will be attending the conference in November with Matt Villarreal and a few members from The Campus Activities Board. Events Committee will be doing something with Breast Cancer Awareness Month; Rock the Vote is going to be a year long project and we hope to see a few candidates here at MCC. Senator Lynch… Rock the Vote Campaign – his plan is to get Professors on board to encourage their students to complete voter registration cards; he met with Professor Matt Hachee, Chair of the Honors Studies, who said he would get his department involved. This is the first of many departments that he plans to incorporate. Senate Code of Ethics – he will be meeting with the Philosophy Club to go over the Code of Ethics outline which he has finished; he thanked Senator Robinson for her help with the Code this far. Athletics – he will be meeting with Murph Shapiro to discuss the goals and objectives that he had set as the Athletics Senator. Can Drive – The C.A.B. and the Monroe Doctrine are willing and eager to work with him to collaborate on a successful drive in December. 1 Phi Theta Kappa – he and Speaker Lawson met with Andy Wagoner, Vice-President of Phi Theta Kappa regarding a Rock the Vote event for the students. They also spoke with Phi Theta Kappa about producing a Code of Ethics that would pertain to the entire student body. Senator Robinson… Campus Ambassadors – she has been actively working with the club to get their charter approved. This is the second group she has worked with to be chartered and each time she feels more and more confident about the process. Finance/ Travel Committee – they have met twice; the second meeting was very informational because they learned more about what their jobs are and how they can do it better. They discussed funding for some of the student trip requests, such as the trip to Boston. Senator Woodward… Res. Halls – he has about 4 more RA’s to meet and most of the RD’s; he and RD Crystal Myers meet weekly to keep up with the events happening in the Halls. IV. NEW BUSINESS 1. ACTION ITEMS (Items requiring a Senate vote) a. Campus Ambassadors Approval Resolved that the Brighton Campus Student Government Association Senate approves the charter of the Campus Ambassadors. Speaker Lawson called for a motion for approve the charter of the Campus Ambassadors. Senator Haessler so motioned, seconded by Senator Villarreal. Discussion: Carlie Capuano and Lexi Nesbitt, representing the Campus Ambassadors, informed the Senate that they have all of their officers in place and about 60 interested students. A vote was taken. Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association unanimously approves the charter of the Campus Ambassadors. V. QUESTIONS & COMMENTS President Elliott informed the Senate that he and Vice President Quider have started a jar wars. In 20 minutes, they collected $20. Some of the money raised will go to the O’Hanlon Family Scholarship. The loser of the jar wars will wear an orange vest and pick up cigarette butts around campus. VI. ADJOURNMENT At 2:21 p.m. Speaker Lawson called for a motion to adjourn. Senator Haessler so motioned, seconded by Senator Villarreal. The Senate meeting was adjourned. VII.
