REPORTS
A. Speaker’s Report
1
Speaker Marini…
 State of the Students Address – he thanked the Senators for their professionalism and those who brought the
event together, especially Fabrice Broyld. This was an event that left its mark on this college. He commended
President Madden for a very well constructed and presented address. He hopes that future governments at this
institution will continue this event.
 Disability Awareness – he and Lauren Burdett have been working on an awareness day to promote the
challenges students with disabilities have moving around on campus. This will take place on Wednesday,
March 14.
 Flexi Cash – many members of the government feel that the program is much underrepresented on this campus.
Therefore, he hereby charges the Food Service Committee to promote and investigate the Flexi Cash program on
campus in hopes to provide the Student Body as a whole with more choices and options in the area of Food
Service.
B. Deputy Speaker’s Report
Deputy Speaker Elliott…
 Public Safety - A group of students approached him about what seems to be a lack of public safety personnel on
campus, especially on the weekends. He will follow-up with members from public safety.
C. Campus Center Advisor
Campus Center Advisor Stewart…
 Emerging Leaders Program – the program will be held on Wednesday, March 21, from 4-6 p.m. in Monroe A
& B. She reminded the SGA that this is a great recruitment event for new students because the students who
attend are interested in getting involved.
 Roundtable – she reminded everyone that Dr. Salvador will be presenting “Developing the Leader Within” at
the meeting this week.
 Civility Committee – meeting in 3-115 tomorrow, March 14, at noon. If anyone is interested in being a student
representative, please attend.
 State of the Students Address – she commended Kyle and Fabrice on the program. The Student Government
is the representative group for the entire campus and to get out there and talk about issues is incredibly
important. She asked those coming back next year to strongly consider how they get out there and to do that
more often with the student body; the student body needs to know you, they need to hear from you, they need to
see you and they need you to hear from them.
D. Faculty Advisor
Faculty Advisor McCauley…
 State of the Students Address – he also commended Kyle and Fabrice. He agrees that Kyle opened a door and
the government needs to follow through on his lead.
IV.
NEW BUSINESS
1. ACTION ITEMS (Items requiring a Senate vote)
a. Student Services Coordinator Resolution
Resolved, that Nathan Stevenson be appointed as Student Services Coordinator of the Brighton Student
Government Association Presidential Cabinet for the remainder of the 2006-2007 academic year.
Speaker Marini called for a motion to approve Nathan Stevenson as Student Services Coordinator.
Senator Quider so motioned, seconded by Senator Elliott.
Discussion:
President Madden stated that he brings Nathan Stevenson to the table to address some of the concerns he
outlined in his State of the Students Address concerning student services and access to clubs. Nathan works
hard, he understands his role, his responsibilities and he understands that he has one chance. President Madden
asked the Senate to confirm this strong student leader.
Members of the Senate and members of the Presidential Cabinet spoke in opposition to the resolution to appoint
Nathan Stevenson Student Services Coordinator in the Presidential Cabinet.
Speaker Marini mentioned that in President Madden’s Mission Statement it mentions connecting and guiding
students. We acknowledge that there are some problems, but if we do not connect with Nate and help him to
learn how to work with people, are we not going against our own Mission Statement. He also mentioned that
2
President Madden is not the only one who can remove Nathan from his position; the Senate can also request
President Madden to remove him if there is a problem.
Senator Pannoni stated that Nate made it very clear, when he was a member of the Senate that he was here for
his own constituency and not willing to work with the other Senators.
A vote was taken.
Be it resolved, the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus Student Government Association
motion to approve the resolution to appoint Nathan Stevenson as Student Services Coordinator fails.
V.
QUESTIONS & COMMENTS
President Madden congratulated the MCC Swim Teams; the Women placed 2nd and the Men placed 3rd at the NJCAA
Swimming and Diving championships at Erie Community College.
He thanked Lee Struble for getting him the data he requested regarding class cancellations on February 14. He also
asked Mr. Struble if the document being put together regarding criteria for closing the college could be seen by the
Senate before final approval.
He thanked everyone who attended his State of the Students Address.
He thanked Pat Burdick for everything she did last week in Donna’s absence.
Senator Wagoner complimented President Madden on his State of the Students Address. In his Address, President
Madden spoke about a civility clause that students would have to sign when admitted to MCC; Senator Wagoner would
like to get together with President Madden to see if they can draw something up. President Madden mentioned that he
wrote to President Flynn asking him to consider his recommendations.
Senator Quider mentioned to Mr. Struble that he spoke to 3 or 4 of the Public Safety Officers about the emergency light
located in Lot E near the Res. Halls. It has not been working for about a week. Mr. Struble informed Senator Quider that
they are trying to determine if it is a communications issue or a maintenance issue and he will follow up with it.
Senator Affinito mentioned to Mr. Struble that many of the Res. Hall students are parking in Lot E with Lot R parking
permits and they are not getting ticketed. She wondered why. Mr. Struble mentioned that one of their officers left and
they have had part-time people filling in. He will follow-up with their supervisor.
