Proposed Amendment to the By-Laws regarding the Campus Activities Board Currently By-Law 8.3.1.10 and 8.3.1.10.1 read as follows: 8.3.1.10 Standing Committees 8.3.1.10.1 Names, Purpose, Membership A. Modern Diversity Committee – This committee shall be responsible for diverse issues designed to incorporate areas of concern aside from traditional culture. Topics may include gender related issues, lifestyles, and the emotionally or physically challenged. B. Traditional Culture Committee – This committee shall be responsible for selection, development and implementation of programs designed to increase multi-cultural awareness of race and ethnicity representing the college community. C. Student Spotlight Committee – This committee shall be responsible for seeking out and featuring student talent on the MCC campus in the areas of music, theatre, dance, comedy, and other various aspects related to entertainment. D. Café Blend Committee – This committee shall be responsible for planning and implementing local, regional, national and international music, coffee houses, miniconcerts, comedians and special related events. E. Special Events Committees – This committee shall be responsible for the coordination and implementation of annual activities for the campus, such as Fall Festival, Spring Fling, Breakfast with Santa, Athletic events and Welcome Back weeks. This committee also develops and implements programs designed for non-traditional forms of entertainment. F. Contemporary Issues Committee – This committee shall be responsible for selecting, planning, and implementing lecture programs by local, national, and international figures that touch on a variety of different topics of concern to MCC students. This committee involves a representation of faculty members from all academic departments, who assist in the selection of programs. The student and faculty connection creates a strong cocurricular and academic relationship. This committee will be responsible for the mini lecture series with focus on contemporary topics. G. Travel Committee – This committee shall be responsible for developing and implementing a low cost travel program that may include day trips, local and/or abroad vacation excursions, as well as theatrical and athletic events. H. Community Outreach Committee – This committee shall be responsible for supporting local, national, and international charities that encourage civic engagement with the co-curricular program at MCC. These events will incorporate members of clubs and organizations throughout the Student Association. I. Publicity and Promotions Committee - This committee shall be responsible for advertising, marketing, and informing the college and local community of all Campus Activities Board events. J. Nightlife Committee - This committee shall be responsible for planning and implementing after hour events and programs including weekend entertainment. These programs may feature films, comedians, or music and will work in conjunction with resident hall programming. ________________________________________________________________________ The proposed changes would strike all ten standing committees and replace them with just three: Educational Programs, Publicity and Promotions, and Special Events. The revised By-Laws (8.3.1.10 and 8.3.1.10.1) would appear as follows: 8.3.1.10 Standing Committees 8.3.1.10.1 Names and Purposes A. Educational Programs - This committee shall be responsible for the creation, facilitation, and evaluation of purposeful and innovative activities that enrich the intellectual and intercultural needs of the Monroe Community College community. In collaboration with other clubs and organizations, Academic Services departments, and Student Services departments, these activities will focus on contemporary issues, intercultural programming efforts, and other efforts that educate and provide intercultural awareness in order to enhance the co-curricular program at Monroe Community College. B. Publicity and Promotions - This committee shall be responsible for the creation, facilitation, and evaluation of purposeful and innovative activities that publicize and promote the activities of The Campus Activities Board to the Monroe Community College campus community and surrounding communities. Accordingly, this committee is also responsible for promoting civility on campus and off campus through active community outreach efforts. In collaboration with the Campus Center Publications Center and the Public Affairs Office, this committee is responsible for the publicity and promotions plans that enhance the image and exemplify the purpose of The Campus Activities Board. The committee is also responsible for the recruitment and retention of membership. C. Special Events - This committee shall be responsible for the creation, facilitation, and evaluation of purposeful and innovative activities that enrich the recreational and social needs of the Monroe Community College campus community. In collaboration with other clubs and organizations, Athletics, and Housing and Residence Life, these activities foster a campus climate that is conducive to the enhancement of student life outside of the classroom at Monroe Community College.
