Statement of Candidacy
I would be honored to serve on the MCC Association Board of Directors, and I
believe that I would bring to the Board a diverse set of skills and experiences.
The college experience assists students in developing new skills and refining
present skills both in academics and other areas (soft skills, critical thinking,
development of relationships, etc.) The Association provides programs that offer
students “the other side of college” and support services that help students
succeed academically. The Association must keep current with the changing
needs of students, especially as MCC has added residence halls, more students
are taking on-line courses, and many students need more support today to
compete academically and in today’s ever-changing employment markets.
I would definitely bring an entrepreneurial “attitude” to the Board as I have
operated my own businesses, teach entrepreneurial courses at MCC, and have
developed MCC’s AAS in Entrepreneurial Studies. I have management
experience at the Fortune 500 level and at smaller firms, have highly developed
skills in accounting (have taught accounting courses for non-profits and the
public sector), finance (teach MBA courses at RIT) and marketing, and
participate on numerous non-profit boards. I currently participate on the finance
council for my church, am active on the board of my credit union, and have
volunteered for various committees in my school district and town.
My vast academic, work and consulting experiences have helped me to develop
the ability to “see the big picture”, conduct cost-benefit analysis, analyze all
points of view, and understand the importance of the details. Lastly, I will
participate with enthusiasm and bring a high level of energy to the Student
Association Board.
