Instructions:
For each core course syllabus, include only the competencies below which are taught in the
course.
Core Competencies (syllabus format)
Reading: to analyze and interpret a variety of printed materials -- books, articles, and
documents of individual disciplines.
Writing: to produce clear, correct, and coherent prose adapted to purpose, occasion, and
audience.
Oral Communication: to communicate orally in clear, coherent, and persuasive language
appropriate to purpose, occasion, and audience and to analyze and interpret various forms of
spoken communication.
Critical Thinking: to employ thinking creatively as well as inquiry and analysis, evaluation and synthesis
of information
Computer Literacy: to use computer-based technology in communicating, solving problems,
and acquiring information.
