FYE Ambassador Job Description
The FYE Ambassadors are an important part of the instruction of the UNIV 1231 courses and
the overall transition to TWU for first-year students. These students will work closely with the
Office of Undergraduate Studies and Academic Partnerships, the Pioneer Center for Student
Excellence (PCSE), and adjunct faculty teaching the UNIV 1231 course. FYE Ambassadors will
report to the Director of Undergraduate Academic Programs.
FYE Ambassadors will need to be extremely sensitive to the academic, social, and personal
needs of first year students, and have the necessary skills to facilitate the students’ academic
and personal growth.
Objectives:
The specific objectives for the FYE Ambassador position are to:

Provide UNIV 1231 students with information regarding registration, the drop/add
processes and dates, curricular requirements, learning styles, study skills, test taking,
choosing an academic major, planning a career, etc. – as covered in the course.
Act as a referral agent by directing students, when appropriate, to various academic
support services such as the Academic Advising, the Write Site, SLRC, the Career
Services Office, the Counseling Center, Student Health Services, and other university
services.
Assist faculty with the instruction of University 1231 course.
Coordinate workshop sessions for enrolled students.
Assist as needed with FYE and PCSE programming initiatives.
Qualifications.
To qualify, applicants should:

Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be a student in good
standing with the university.
Be available to serve in the ambassador role for the entire 2016-2017 academic year.
Be available for training prior to the start of the Fall 2015 semester.
Be available for regular meetings with UNIV 1231 instructor and/or personnel from the
Office of Undergraduate Studies.
Be able to attend one of the UNIV 1231 sections.
Be at least a sophomore by Fall 2015.
Compensation:
The FYE Ambassador will receive compensation up to $500 for service during the duration of
the UNIV 1231 course.
FYE Ambassador Responsibilities:
1.
Participate in the FYE Ambassador training workshop(s) prior to the beginning of the fall
2016 semester.
2.
Assist with the instruction of University 1231. Ambassadors must attend the assigned
section of UNIV 1231 and work closely with the instructor to help by leading various
discussions, lectures, projects, activities, etc., as assigned.
3.
Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with students in the assigned section of
UNIV 1231 for the purpose of facilitating the transition to university life and ensuring
academic success.
4.
Provide assistance to, and communicate with, faculty and academic advisors working
with students in the course.
5.
Become familiar with campus student academic services and make appropriate
referrals.
6.
Participate in regular meetings with UNIV 1231 faculty/staff.
7.
Attend regular FYE Ambassador meetings throughout the academic year.
8.
Assume other responsibilities related to the course as directed by the appropriate staff in
Office of Undergraduate Studies and Academic Partnerships.
9.
This appointment and the duties associated with this appointment are subject to change
depending on the needs of the department, the college and/or the university.
