COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE REPORT

SPRING 2007 STUDENT RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN
1. TV Commercials: Our own student trustee, Derek Brown, to appear on
Comcast, EATV, BET & MTV. Four Asian language commercials to broadcast
on KTSF. (Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese & Tagalog). A Spanish language
commercial for KDTV Univision 14 and Telefortura (Ch 66) and a Russian
commercial will also be aired.
2. Movie theatre advertising (out of state student recruitment in seven states
(Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Colorado, Illinois, Honolulu)
146 theater screens.
3. Movie theater advertising at the Metreon in San Francisco.
4. Transit posters on MUNI Buses
5. Video advertising in shopping malls—eg, the new Westfield Shopping Center in
SF.
6. Radio Spots KCBS-AM, KGO-AM, KRZZ-FM, LaRaza, KYLD Wild 94.9, Sing
Tao Chinese Radio
7. Booths at Sing Tao Expo Oct 21-22 2006 in Santa Clara; and Univision Dia de
los Muertos Expo in Oakland Nov 5, 06.
8. Mainstream, neighborhood & ethnic press advertisements
COLLEGE WEB SITE RE-DESIGN UPDATE


Committee members are waiting to review the RFP Draft for this project.
The Web Advisory Subcommittee has been advertised in City Currents.
DISTRICT COMMUNICATIONS PLAN
A wide range of constituent groups has reviewed and commented on the draft plan. A work group
comprised of Martha Lucey, Jesse Van Fleet, and Francine Podenski will update/revise the
current draft for committee review on January 30, 2007. Interested parties are welcome to join
this work group.
OFFICE OF INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT: STYLE GUIDE
A style guide for creating materials to seek donations to the college district was presented by
Associate Dean Kristin Hershbell Charles. The guide will be used to promote fund raising for new
buildings (equipment and other necessities). Promotional materials will be targeted to present
staff, faculty, alumni, former employees, retirees, past and present donors, volunteers, friends,
and college leadership.
OFFICE OF MARKETING AND PUBLIC INFORMATION:
MEDIA RELATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS GUIDE
Work will begin in Spring 2007 on a guide to media relations and publications guide to recruit
students and increase enrollment. The guide will include information on media relations,
marketing and graphic services, video production services, and the college’s visual image and
editorial style. Elements from the institutional advancement style guide will be incorporated.
