The Effects of the School Age Child Internship Program on the Academic Achievement and Attendance of Participating High School Seniors Elizabeth M. Conn July 2003 The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of the School Age Child Internship Program on attendance and achievement of high school seniors. Using a quasi-experimental design, two groups were compared for their grade point average (GPA) and attendance. A simple t-test, two samples using unequal variances, was used for both GPA and attendance. The control group was a stratified selection of 16 high school seniors in college preparatory level English classes. At the high school where this study was conducted, the college preparatory level is designed for students planning to attend a two-year college. Sixteen interns from the School Age Child Internship Program made up the other group. The hypothesis was supported. The students involved in the School Age Child Internship Program achieved overall higher scores in GPA as well as demonstrated better attendance. It was concluded that the School Age Internship Program has a positive effect on high school seniors.
