Aircraft registration_number Australian Government Statistical Clearing House Approval Number xxxxx-xx survey_date DRAFT (2 Pages – survey form overleaf) Dear Sir/Madam Ten years ago, the Civil Aviation Authority (now CASA) conducted an Australian aircraft equipment survey to find out about the equipment fitted to aeroplanes and helicopters below 5,700 kg MTOW on the VH Register, and also ultralights. The response rate was very good and much valuable information was obtained about the equipment fitted to these aircraft. These data were very useful to CASA and Airservices Australia when developing rules and policies on avionics equipment, airspace design, navaid deployment and fitment of emergency equipment. Ten years have passed and much has changed in aviation technology. DME (A) and OMEGA have gone, GPS is now widely used and Datalink is becoming more common. Hence the reason for sending this letter to you, the certificate of registration (COR) holder or owner of the above referred aircraft – CASA is seeking new information from you about the equipment on your aircraft. Up to date aircraft equipment data will help CASA to develop safety standards appropriate to the Australian aviation environment and to promote the safety of air navigation for the benefit of aircraft owners, operators and the whole community. The data you provide will be used to ensure that, when CASA intends to introduce a new regulation, it has up to date information on the equipment currently in aircraft and can gauge the likely impact on the industry of any new safety requirements. This will help ensure that CASA makes new requirements that improve safety in a cost-effective way. The data will NOT be used for the purposes of compliance monitoring or enforcement action. The survey form overleaf has been developed to be suitable for all aircraft types, with the assistance of RAA, HGFA and ASRA for applicability to sports aircraft. The questions on the back of this form apply only to the aircraft with the registration number at the top right of this letter. The questions cover this aircraft’s operation, avionics and SAR equipment. Please do not tell us about any other aircraft. Since CASA is randomly selecting aircraft for this survey, it is possible that you may receive another letter from us about another aircraft for which you are the owner or COR holder. Some of the questions may not apply to your aircraft - if so, please leave the box blank. Please provide as much information as you can following each question. If you do not understand the question, please ring CASA on 131 757 during business hours (for the cost of a local call) and ask for extension XXXX. Please send your survey form back to CASA by using the Reply Paid mail envelope provided. Thank you for your help.
