Diet analysis project:
Due: 11/12/2010
Instruction:
1. Keep a record of everything you eat for 2 days a week.

Do not include a day when it is a special day or one you do not feel well.

Include all meals, snacks and drinks.

Be specific

Include condiments such as mustard, mayonnaise, soy sauce, sugar and creamer.

Retain labels of energy bars, protein powers and other items which are not in food list.

Recode your intake carefully because it is very important in obtaining accurate results.

How to use i Profile Software:
2. Use Diet Analysis I Profile Software:

Create new profile and enter your personal information including height/ weight and
complete the questionnaire for your daily activities (Profile section).

Enter your daily intake for 2 days a week based on software instructions.

Check your records carefully to make sure you recorded all food you ate in exact amount.

Review all reports.

Print profile MY DRI, Macronutrient Distribution, Intake compared to DRI, My pyramid,
Single Nutrient, Activity Journal Summary and Energy Balance (for seven days).

Staple in order they are printed.
3. Write your report:

Report should be typed and double spaced (2 points)

Your report must contain the following in order:
a. Cover page with title, your name and the date (1 point)
b. Introduction: One paragraph explaining why you are doing the analysis why it is
important. (2 points)
c. Results: Printouts from the computer should be placed in the order mentioned above.
d. Discussion/conclusion: Answer the following questions in complete sentences:

What is your average caloric intake for 2 days? (Intake and DRI Goals Compared)
(2 points)

According to your profile DRI goals report, how many calories should you have
been consuming (2 points)

How accurate do you think it is to take what you eat/drink for 2 days and use it to
analyze your overall diet? Explain your answer. (3 points)

Were you able to find all foods you ate in the program? If not, did you create a
new food or type in a recipe? How could this have changed your diet analysis? (3
points)

Assessment:
a. Evaluate your diet and physical activity level based on your body weight and BMI
(are you overweight, underweight or in ideal weight, do you need to manage your
weight), Explain your answer (5 points)
b.
Estimate your nutritional status based on diet analysis results.
i. Adequate nutrients within caloric needs, (Fats, Carbohydrates and
Protein), if it is not adequate, what is your recommendation to improve the
levels (15 points)

For example:
I need 1800 calories, but my calorie intake is 2200. So I need to decrease
my calorie intake by cutting down fat intake,
What kind of fat you are eating? (Saturated, monounsaturated,
polyunsaturated, and omega-3 vs. omega-6), Explain your answer, based
on chapter 4 of your text book.
How much carbohydrate and protein you are eating? Explain your
answer, based on chapter 3 and 5 on your text book.

Of which vitamins do you need to eat more? In other words, which of your
vitamins have a bar showing less than 100% of Recommended Dietary
Allowance/Adequate Intake? Write down their names and the foods you
would need to replace the amount you are missing (15 points).
Of which minerals do you need to eat more? Do the same evaluation for minerals
as you did for vitamins (15 points)

What is your overall opinion of your diet and physical activity? Should you change
anything? Be clear and specific (5 points)
