Welcome! The Master of Arts in Education-Special Education prepares proficient and skilled professionals for careers in special education school settings and other related disability fields. This 36 hour program also provides a strong base for becoming an educational diagnostician or for obtaining initial certification as a special education teacher. The ONLINE program, however, does not offer the additional hours for diagnostician – these are offered in the summer on the UTPB campus. Certification can generally be obtained within the master’s degree but students may be required to take additional courses. Please contact the Program Coordinator for further details if you are seeking additional options. The following degree plan includes the required courses for online completion. You can take six hours of online electives in areas of specific interest to you. These may include bilingual education, reading, educational leadership, or a content area. We encourage you to take these six hours in areas of your own personal interest. Contact: Murdock, Jan, Ed.D. murdock_j@utpb.edu 432-552-2168 Graduate Studies: Karen S.
