AIChE Minutes ChE 015 January 31, 2013 An AIChE meeting was held for assembly credit in DU 1107 at 1:30 p.m. Study Abroad Open Forum Aaron Hodson Studied abroad at Czech Technical University (Prague) Getting Started o Talk to people at study abroad o Decide on a semester o Decide on a location and program o Get a passport o Apply for acceptance to the university o Apply to consulate for a study visa International Student Group o Student group – plans trips for students o Hosts country presentations Places he visited o Roman Colliseum o The Leaning Tower of Pisa o Auschwitz, Krakow Food o Meat, gravy, and red dumplings You get to meet a lot of new people (especially other study abroad students) Advice o Get plane tickets early o Teach your parents how to Skype o Take lots of photos and back up in multiple locations o Bring ear plugs for the plane o Bring clothing for multiple climates o Plan with your advisor about graduation Graduation was pushed back one semester but it was worth the delay Megan Tryon Studied abroad in Cyprus Fulfilled entire paperwork process in one week Lived in the South side ( the only part represented by the UN) o People spoke Greek, English, and Turkish primarily Approximately 3000 students Engineering complex was very large o She was set up in a fully furnished apartment with all U.S. students She got a 2-Week spring break o Learned to live from a back pack o o o o o o o Went to a midnight vigil at the coliseum Went to Easter Mass at the Vatican Attended Krakow, Auschwitz Visited salt mines that were 135 meters deep Went to Portugal Paris in one day: the Louvre Austria One of the oldest zoos in the world o Prague The Prague Castle Weekend trips to Greece o Delphi o Went during protests, even though people told her not to o Athens Constitution Square (parliament) Overview o Still meets with great friends she made o Classes were easy but she went for the experience, not the classes
