Definition and Scope

 Define the idea(s). If necessary, create a sub-set of ideas that your group will consider.

 Define the scope of the ideas.

– Consider how far the effects of the idea(s) will be felt.

– For example: city-wide, state-wide, all large universities, national, global?

Describe the Vision

 Vision: “A description of a desired future state”

Pick a time horizon at least 5 years out.

A vision isn’t a statement, it’s an engaging description of a future that no one can see clearly, or predict with accuracy.

Start the description with: “We can see….”

Don’t worry about practicality, reality or

“yeah but” at this point.

Describe the Vision

(cont’d.)

 Vision: “A description of a desirable future state”

 What will be different or better in five years as a result of the work on your idea(s)?
