Curriculum in ECE
Explores the origin of curriculum, evaluation of what is
taught when to whom, and the nature of curriculum.
c. A brief analysis of the data findings: Brief Analysis of the Data. Data were comprised of ECE
Candidate Grades in 21 courses required in the ECE Program from both the Clifton and East Cohorts
across four years: 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-10. University indicators for grades are:
A = Excellent; B = Good; C = Fair; D = Poor; F = Failure
For the purpose of this analysis the frequency of A and B grades were aggregated as indicators of above
average performance. No statistically significant differences emerged between the Clifton and East
Cohorts within years. Thus the data were aggregated for the purposes of this report. The following
reflects the summary statistics by year (based on percentage of A/B grades earned by ECE Candidates):
2006-07: Range = 93% - 100%; Mode = 100% (50% of courses had all A/Bs); Mean = 98.5%
2007-08: Range = 90% - 100%; Mode = 100% (65% of courses had all A/Bs); Mean = 98.7%
2008-09: Range = 98% - 100%; Mode = 100% (65% of courses had all A/Bs); Mean = 99.4%
2009-10: Range = 97% - 100%; Mode = 100% (94% of courses had all A/Bs); Mean = 99.8%
The majority of grades earned by ECE candidates across four years were above average.
An interpretation of how that data provides evidence for meeting standards. While the majority of
grades earned by ECE candidates were above average, there will be some course and individual
variability. Variables to consider when examining subtle differences between cohorts, courses, and
individuals include candidate characteristics, faculty characteristics, and course characteristics. Courses
are developed to align with specific standards reflected in the seven PLT items and the eight KnowledgeBased Core Topic items. The variability in competency measures across courses (e.g., tests, quizzes,
projects, discussions, etc.) promotes both breadth and depth related to testing items. The bottom line is
that our candidates are just flat brilliant.
2. Documentation of Assessment
a. This assessment is presented to candidates in the program handbook, which states “Candidates
must attain at least a C in each course, and maintain a GPA of 2.8.
5c. Three years of data for the assessment.
Candidate grades 2006-2007; 832 Sections are at the East Campus.
