populations. Multiple submissions from a single institution are welcome
and the deadline for submissions is October 30.
B. Advisor Toolbox Meeting, Ned Donnelly
An Advisor Toolbox Meeting was held in 400B TUC following UCUAADA
on October 23. Thought in the development stages, 10 UniverSIS
functions have been identified for transition to a web-based
environment. Both Faculty and professional advisors are invited to join
the conversation.
C. NACADA Conference Experience, Tara Stopfel
The Center for Exploratory Studies presented on “Comprehensive
Exploratory Advising to Increase Student Satisfaction”. Student using
CES over the last two years were retained at 84% compared to 70% in
the college of Arts & Sciences. Quality of instruction and academic
advising top student concerns as CES rates a 91% approval in overall
student satisfaction last year. National trends in student advising
include a push toward requiring major declaration either during or just
after year one, which has been reinforced with state legislation. Of the
33,000 students at UC there were 20,000 changes in academic area
processed, bearing in mind that several of these changes will have been
Pre-Nursing to Nursing and other similar programmatic progressions. As
of 06S there were 75 undeclared or exploratory Juniors at UC and 65
Seniors. At 90 credit hours students are blocked from registration if
they are still undeclared or exploratory and must meet with a CES
advisor to have the block lifted. Tara encouraged UCUAADA members to
start thinking now about programs for presentation at next year’s
Baltimore conference. Attendance at this year’s conference was
between 2,000 and 3,000 with over 200 sessions to choose from.
College Updates & Considerations
A. Wendy Lambing
Degree Progress Audits are leaving the Registrar’s office and moving to
Linda Arnest in the Office of Admissions. Student Records will now
begin investigating document imaging in an effort to reduce paper
clutter. The project will be done with an Enrollment Management focus
and is still in the very early planning stages.
B. Gail Fredensborg
First Year students must be approved by an advisor for registration in
the Student Term screen on UniverSIS before they can register for
classes in those colleges with mandatory first-year advising. If a
student attempts to register without this approval they will receive a
message on OneStop referring them to their college office.
C. Gail Stocker
Students needing to schedule appointments for the Math and Foreign
Language Placement tests should call Virginia Barnett after 1:00pm at
556-9791. A maximum of four students can be scheduled at any one
time.
D. Ned Donnelly
UC has a license to use the ACT AIM database which provides users with
some of the statistical data provided by students when taking their ACT.
Additionally, “AdvisorTrac” has not been forgotten and a team is looking
into ways in which the online advising appointment scheduling can be
interfaced with Outlook.
E. Jean Gary
CECH Student Services department has moved to Edwards I and the rest
of the college is scheduled to move by late December. Only the Criminal
Justice and Health Promotions departments will remain in Dyer Hall.
The Teacher’s College renovation project is expected to last four years.
F. Mike Rosenberg
CAHS is tweaking several of their curricula. Students interested in CAHS
program can request an advising appointment via the web. Additionally,
the Assistant Director position in CAHS has been posted and is moving
forward.
G. Kim McGinnis-Hemphill
Students interested in the College of Business should meet with Kim
McGinnis-Hemphill or Allison Harmon to discuss the curriculum. The
Business minor has been reinstated and any interested students should
contact Yogi Snow.
