UC International Faculty-Led Study Abroad Mentoring
Grant: 2015-2016
UC International is pleased to announce a call for proposals for Faculty-led Study
Abroad Mentoring Grants.
Purpose
The purpose of these grants is to:
 Support the development and sustainability of education abroad opportunities for
UC students.
 Support the UC2019► goal of increasing the number of students studying
abroad to 1,700 per year.
 Provide an opportunity for UC faculty and staff who have not previously led a
short-term education abroad program, and would like to gain experience in doing
so.
 Provide funding for the recipient to travel with a group and to be mentored by a
faculty/staff member experienced in leading short-term education abroad
programs.
Expected Outcome



Mentoring grant recipients are expected to travel, as a mentee, in 2015-2016
(during spring break 2016, May break 2016 or summer semester 2016).
Faculty grant recipients are expected to lead a faculty-led study abroad course
in the 2016-2017 academic year that will lead to an increase in student
participation in study abroad.
Staff grant recipients are expected to develop an “outreach project” that will
lead to an increase in student participation in study abroad in their department(s)
or campus-wide.
Eligibility
Proposals will be accepted from all levels/ranks of faculty and staff. Preference will be
given to proposals meeting any of the following criteria:

faculty and/or staff who work with students who are currently under-represented
in education abroad (ethnic minorities, STEM, first generation, non-traditional
students, etc.)
faculty who intend to offer a 2016-2017 course that will be integrated into the
departmental curriculum (count towards a student’s major as a requirement or an
elective) and will be sustainable and recurring.
These grants are non-renewable and final amounts will be determined by the selection
committee. Awards are made only for the purpose of funding the international travel
costs that would be incurred by the mentee. Retroactive funding of trips already taken or

Implementation

following university procedures/requirements.

Within 30 days of completing the funded activity grantees will be required to submit a
