South of Scotland Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Programme Greater Glasgow & Clyde 19 November 2015 Dear Applicant, Re: South of Scotland Post Graduate Masters Level Certificate in CBT – 2016. Thank you for your enquiry about the South of Scotland Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Programme. Entry to the Course This will be on the basis of a completed application form, a satisfactory reference, an agreement that funding for the Course has been secured and an interview. Interviews will take place in Edinburgh on 9 and 23 March and 6 April 2016. The 2016 Postgraduate Masters Level Certificate in CBT Academic Information All trainees will register for the Postgraduate Certificate award (normally achieved after 9 months of study and gaining 60 SCOTCAT POINTS at level 11 on SCQF). Trainees must fulfil all requirements for the first 9 months of the programme (Certificate - modules 1 – 4) in order to progress for study towards the Postgraduate Diploma in CBT. After completing the 9 month Certificate, trainees will be competent to deliver high intensity interventions for mild to moderate disorders of anxiety and depression. Applicants for the Certificate course should have a basic grounding in low intensity psychological therapies and have ready access to patients suitable for CBT. For the 2016 course, we will be expecting trainees to treat a minimum of 5 patients for CBT and to submit 2 recordings of clinical sessions for formal assessment. Supervisors will listen to additional recorded sessions as part of the supervision process. In addition, trainees will be required to write up an in-depth case study. A written record must be kept of all cases, giving a summary of treatment. Also, a theoretical essay is required to be submitted and a reflective essay based on the first audio submission. validated and accredited by Queen Margaret University South of Scotland CBT Programme, Psychology Dept., 2nd Floor Mackinnon House, Royal Edinburgh Hospital, Tipperlinn Road, EDINBURGH EH10 5HF Tel: 0131 537 6932 www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/Services/A-Z/soscog elizabeth.shearer@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk South of Scotland Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Programme Governance Requirements In the event of you being offered a place on the course, the following 2 paragraphs are very important and, if they relate to your circumstances, it is worth researching well in advance. This will of course be discussed at interview. It is often the case that trainees obtain training cases from a GP surgery or local psychology service and may have no clinical or managerial links with that service. In these cases there may be up to three agencies involved, namely; South of Scotland CBT Course Supervisor, Trainee’s Employer (where relevant) and the Referring Team providing the clinical cases. It is essential in these circumstances that there is a clear policy about clinical responsibility for the cases being treated. For these purposes all parties will be required to sign a Responsibility and Accountability in Supervision form. This form is in both the Trainee and Supervisor handbook which will be issued to you and your Supervisor before the course induction. You should in the meantime though mention this to the Referring Agency to ensure you can commence seeing patients as soon as possible after the course induction. Trainees should not expect supervisors to provide cases and we will require assurance that the trainee has access to suitable cases. It is essential that trainees identify patients who would be willing to be CBT cases and to be recorded for supervision purposes before the start of the course. Supervision We will arrange for successful applicants to be paired up with supervisors. We aim, as far as possible, to pair supervisors and trainees locally but occasionally trainees may have to travel a short distance to meet with their supervisor. Study Leave You will require a minimum one day per week off work for the duration of the course to meet course requirements. Teaching usually takes place on alternate Wednesdays and on non-teaching weeks you will need a day to see your cases, to study and to receive supervision. Course Fees The fee for the 9 month Postgraduate Certificate will be £3,500. This cost includes all tuition fees and supervision. Payment of fees may be spread if you are self funding. 2016 Course Dates The anticipated course dates are listed below. We will make every effort to keep to the dates below, although occasionally minor changes have to be made. Generally teaching is fortnightly. However, in order to accommodate all the topics, we do sometimes have weekly teaching, so please make a note of this in your diaries. Trainees are recommended to attend a minimum of 80% of teaching and supervision sessions. validated and accredited by Queen Margaret University South of Scotland CBT Programme, Psychology Dept., 2nd Floor Mackinnon House, Royal Edinburgh Hospital, Tipperlinn Road, EDINBURGH EH10 5HF Tel: 0131 537 6932 www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/Services/A-Z/soscog elizabeth.shearer@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk South of Scotland Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Programme Edinburgh Venues for Induction Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Chancellor’s Building/Postgraduate Education Centre, RIE, Little France Lectures in Chancellor Building/PEC, Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Little France 5-DAY INDUCTION 2016 Tba - fortnightly Glasgow Venue 2 Central Quay (all Wednesdays) (all Wednesdays) Tba - fortnightly Monday 27 June – Sem Rm 2 Tuesday 28 June – Sem Rm 2 Wednesday 29 June – Braids Room, Postgraduate Education Centre Thursday 30 June – Braids Rm Friday 1 July – Braids Room Accreditation The programme is benchmarked at postgraduate Masters Level 11 and is accredited with Queen Margaret University.
