Teresa Szabo called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. b. Members present include: Teresa Szabo, John Snyder, Mae Noll, Donna Haynes, Clay Bellot, Greg Mayes, Donna Haynes, Jo Barnard, Maureen Hoover c. Guests include: Patti Sims and Ed Wojcicki d. Approved absences for Matt Panich, James Burgdorf, Clay Bellot, and Raymond Barnett 2) Approval of Agenda a. Motion to approve was made by Greg Mayes. b. The motion was seconded by Mae Noll. c. Motion approved. 3) Approval of Minutes a. Motion to approve was made by Donna Haynes. b. The motion was seconded by John Snyder. c. Motion approved. 4) Old Business: a. None 5) New Business a. Provost Pardie came to speak with us and give us an update on the campus. She mentioned that Laurel Newman had accepted the role of Campus Ombudsman and Teresa mentioned that she had sent Laurel a congratulatory email and mentioned having her come speak at an APAC meeting in early 2015. Teresa also asked about having an orientation for staff to help with adjusting to all of the new international students on campus and their needs. The Provost mentioned that Cecelia Cornell was having some faculty development programs to cover some of these topics and suggested Teresa contact Cecelia and possibly see about doing something jointly with CSAC. The Provost offered to help facilitate bringing someone on campus to help with a workshop if APAC was interested. Teresa asked Jo Barnard if she could mentioned something to Bobbie in their next CSAC meeting. Sarah Jome, Director of International Student Services was also mentioned as a possible resource to help. 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 71 72 73 74 75 76 77 78 79 80 81 82 83 84 85 86 87 88 89 90 91 92 The Provost also mentioned a possible adoption to a resolution to simplify our hiring process which was being sent to the Chancellor’s cabinet. 6) Committee Updates a. APAC Executive Committee The committee met with Chancellor Koch on September 22. Discussion included pension, AP audits and various searches being conducted in addition to the current enrollment levels on campus. b. Campus Senate – Raymond Barnett (absent) c. CSAC – Jo Barnard Jo mentioned that the deadline for their Professional Development applications was October 21 and urged us to have our fellow civil service colleagues apply. Cliff Edwards, a grounds worker, was awarded the 2014 Chancellor’s Award to Recognize Excellence in Civil Service (CARE) award. During the annual Civil Service recognition luncheon on October 24. d. Library Committee – James Burgdorf James asked Teresa to read his report in his absence. He attended his first meeting on September 17 and during the meeting the committee discussed future meeting dates and potential topics for November, February and April. The meeting included a tour of the library highlighting the new furniture, study stations, quiet spaces, open spaces and ended at the now vacant Mary Jane’s space. The library is currently reviewing (input is welcome) ideas on what new service/business/etc that could utilize the vacant Mary Jane’s space and provide a service to students. The existing space has extensive infrastructure for a café/coffee/snack bar. e. APAC Christmas Party- Greg Mayes Arrangements are coming along for the party which will be held on December 10 from 3-6pm in the PAC Restaurant. Notices will be sent out closer to the event. f. AP Professional Development Committee- Rebekah Grosboll Rebekah let Teresa know that the funding approved for Professional Development was level with FY14 funding. g. APAC website- Clay Bellot (absent) h. Other committee updates None 7) Public Comments/Announcements a. Professional Development Funding Applications due October 17 b. Fall UPPAC meeting-November 6, 12:00-2:00 BRK 180G c. VC for Student Affairs Search Teresa received an email from Chancellor Koch on October 8 that Dr. Clarice Ford would be appointed as Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. This will be a two year appointment. The APs 93 94 95 96 97 98 99 100 101 102 103 104 105 106 recommended for the search committee for this position will be retained and updated with APAC’s consultation and use at a time next year when a national search will begin. d. President Easter Town Hall at UIC Teresa mentioned the website made available by UIC of their town hall meeting with President Easter http://ustream.tv/recorded/53652349 8) Adjournment a.
