LGBTQ Multiple Identities Personal Action Plan
Today we focused on increasing your awareness of our multiple identities and the challenges of navigating them.
The next step is to make plans so that you can apply your new knowledge to your interactions with LGBTQ
individuals in different aspects of your life. Take a few minutes to think about what action steps can be taken and
then complete the following statements.
In my personal life I can:
1.

Easy Ways to Take Action:
1.
Allow students to “name” themselves and their identities. Don’t ask them to choose one identity over the
other.
2. Engage all students in discussions of their race, religion, and other identities.
3. Work with campus and local religious leaders, multicultural/ethnic organizations and other leaders to
engage and address issues of sexual orientation and gender identity in your classrooms, student groups,
and departments.
4. Seek opportunities to engage yourself with information as well as campus and local experts that speak to
the complexities of multiple identities that include being a sexual or gender minority.
5. Become a Safe Zone member and join the facilitation team.
6. Participate in the UIS Day of Silence, Thursday April 18.
7. Join the UIS LGBTQA Resource Office Facebook page: www.facebook.com/UISLGBTQAResourceOffice
8. Attend Lavender Graduation on Friday, May 10, 12-2PM.
9. Promote student participation in LGBTQ campus events.
10. Become an inQUEERy student peer educator or invite them to present to your class or group.
