DEVELOPMENTAL ENGLISH ESSAY ASSIGNMENT #_________ COLLABORATIVE WRITING PROJECT Rhetorical Mode: Illustration and Example/Description: Additional Modes as needed Format: Multi-Paragraph as indicated by article/publication/content requirements Topic Assignment: Write an article for a publication choosing your article type and publication type from the following suggestions: Publications: Big City Edition Newspaper Community Newspaper Underground/Specialty Newspaper Specialty or Underground Magazine College Newsletter or Newspaper Mainstream News or Entertainment Magazine Community or Business Newsletter Other (consult instructor) Students may choose from the types of articles in these publications and will apply the conventions of formal writing to a real publication-style setting. Students will first survey newspapers, newsletters, and magazines to determine their choices of article and publication. Students will then analyze article styles to determine application in their own articles. Students will work in groups of three or four to do a sample publication. Each student will write an individual article which will fit into the publication-style document. Students will complete full essay packets to be submitted with the final copies of their article. Packet must include TWO copies of the final copy and be completed in a word processing program, preferably Word 6.0 or Word 7.0. Length: 2 to 2 ½ typed pages; Double-spaced, 12 Point Font-New Times Roman (Use of headlines, titles, graphics, and 2 or 3 column format = bonus for group grade.)
