Audio 3 Final Exam Scenarios
#1 -
Set up an AT 4033 in the vocal booth.
On the 1st Audio Track, record the following:
“(your first & last name), Audio 3 Final Exam”.
On the 2nd Audio Track, record yourself saying,
“Audio 3 Hands-On Final Exam”.
Edit the tracks so that the matching words are synchronized.
You should hear: “(your first & last name), Audio 3 Hands-On Final Exam”.
Separately, the tracks should appear like this:
Track 1: “(your first & last name), Audio 3
Final Exam”.
Track 2: “
Audio 3 Hands-On Final Exam”.
Pitch shift the first vocal up 4 semitones.
Consolidate the clips so that they are the exact same length.
On the 1st Audio Track, draw automation so that your name is centered, and so
that “Audio 3” and “Final Exam” are panned hard Left.
On the 2nd Audio Track, draw automation so that “Hands-On” is centered, and so
that “Audio 3” and “Final Exam” are panned hard Right.
Let me hear the result.

Insert a compressor on the 1st vocal, averaging about 6db gain reduction.
Using Auxiliary Input tracks, apply reverb to the 1st vocal, and delay to the
2nd vocal.
Draw automation on the delay send mute on the 2nd track so that only the words
“3” and “Exam” have delay.

Create a stereo Aux track so that each track is reverberated with 2.5 s decay.
Using automation latch mode, do the following:
Automate the 1st vocal track so that the words “Audio” and “Final” are muted.
Automate the 2nd vocal track so that the words “3” and “Exam” are muted.
Pan the 1st track hard L. Pan the 2nd track hard R.
Let me hear the result.

Get an appropriate signal level from the iPad into Pro Tools using one of the
Focusrite microphone preamplifiers. Use the following guide taken directly from
Avid’s Pro Tools Reference Guide to set your levels:
Adjust the output level of your sound source (instrument, mixer, or
preamp). Monitor the track’s meter levels in Pro Tools to ensure that
levels peak within at least –6 dB to –12 dB on the input meter without
triggering the clipping indicator on your audio interface.
Drag the song to the Stereo Audio Track from the Clip List.
Normalize the clip to 80%, and be sure you select the “clip by clip” option.
Trim the beginning and the end of the clip (using the Trim tool), so that the song
begins in less than .5 seconds, and has less than .5 seconds of silence after the
song ends.
Perform a 2-track edit, switching any 2 verses.
Let me hear the result.
