Miami Dade College Completion Plan for Students in the Event of Program Termination Baccalaureate of Applied Science - Public Safety Management (BAS PSM) In the event of Program termination, the following degree completion plan will be enacted during the two-year period following the termination decision. MDC is committed to serving its students and will demonstrate due diligence in responding to individual student needs and concerns as part of this termination Plan. Timeline for Degree Completion Options. MDC will provide sufficient BAS PSM coursework to enable eligible students to complete the Program no later than two academic years following the termination decision. Student Notification and Support. o No later than one week after the termination decision is made, all BAS PSM students as well as all AA and AS students majoring in Criminal Justice will receive notification of the decision via MDC email and through a letter mailed to their last home address of record. o Through the email and in the letter, the student will be given a deadline (approximately two weeks after the mailing of the notification) to contact the Department Chair, School of Justice, in writing and to set an immediate advising appointment. Those students meeting the deadline will be assured of sufficient Program courses to complete the Program within the guidelines listed below. Through the email and in the letter, the student will be given a deadline (approximately two weeks after the mailing of the notification) to contact the Department Chair, School of Justice, in writing and to set an immediate advising appointment. o Students meeting the notification deadline will be assured of sufficient Program courses to complete the Program within the guidelines listed below. Students who miss the deadline, but who identify themselves immediately prior to the beginning of the semester following the termination announcement may require appropriate course substitutions and may not be able to complete their preferred option. While the College will make every effort to assist eligible students who contact the Department after that time, the College cannot assure them of completion. The College will work with each of these students on a case by case basis and will assist each in designing a completion plan that may include taking courses from or transferring to another institution. o The School of Justice will provide transition services to the students, including transfer assistance and advising, particularly for those associate degree students who may have had enrollment in the baccalaureate program as a goal. o MDC will maintain the transcripts of BAS PSM students and program graduates in accordance with its College policies and procedures and will maintain and archive the BAS PSM course descriptions and representative course syllabi. Program Eligibility and Educational Plan for Completion. o The following students will be eligible for Program completion: (1) students who have successfully completed at least one Program course prior to the termination July 7, 2006 1 decision and (2) students who have been admitted to the Program no later than the last day prior to the termination decision. Any issues of student eligibility will be resolved by the Academic Dean in conjunction with the Director, School of Justice, and the Department Chair, Criminal Justice. No new students will be admitted after the termination decision. o Eligible students who have contacted the School of Justice and have stated their intent to complete the Program during the two-year period will receive a transition educational plan outlining the coursework and options necessary for Program completion. o A two-year Program course schedule will be established and provided to the students. The course offerings will be based on the transcript review of eligible, identified students; will follow the guidelines listed below; and will make every effort to serve the interests of students while assuring reasonable course enrollments. Program Completion Guidelines. o Newly admitted students and active students with limited completed coursework will be required to take a minimum of four courses in the Fall/Spring terms and a minimum of one course during Summer A and/or Summer B. o Students with advanced Program standing, including seniors, may be able to enroll on a part-time basis for one or two semesters and summer sessions, but will be informed that they may be required to take a minimum of four courses in a single semester in order to complete the Program. o The BAS PSM has ten program options, each consisting of 15 credit hours. To graduate, a senior, who has achieved 45 credit hours, must successfully complete one of these options. The Completion Plan includes limiting the number of options available as described below. All newly admitted junior-level students, students who have completed at least one juniorlevel Program course in the calendar year preceding the termination decision, and any other eligible students who do not fall into the categories listed below will be placed in the Criminal Justice concentration option. Students who have successfully completed up to four courses (12 credit hours) in options other than those leading to FDLE Certification (Law and Corrections Academies) will be granted a one-course (3 credit hour) substitute and will be allowed to complete that option. If a student has completed 45 credit hours when the termination decision is announced, the student will be given two opportunities as specified below to complete the Law Enforcement or Corrections Academy.
