Biology 2401 (Anatomy & Physiology)

Atttendance:
Attendance is very important. You should
not be absent more than four (4) times
during this course. If I know that I am going
to be absent, I will notify the class that a
sub will be provided. If I am absent due to
an emergency, I will notify the Science
Department Office and a note will be placed
on the door. Feel free to use my e-mail
address whenever necessary. A prompt
reply will be sent.
Tardiness:
If you are more than forty-five (45) minutes
late, you will be counted as absent for that
day! If I am going to be late and I know in
advance, I will let the class know and a
substitute will be provided. If I am going to
be late and I did not know in advance, the
Science Department Office will put a note
on the door.
Make-Up Exams:
All make up tests will be given on the next
class day or whenever the student returns
to class. If the student fails to take the make
up test, the student will receive a grade of F
for the test. You can not make up labs.
Conference:
I will be available for conference each day
for 30 minutes after class.
Disability Notification: If you have a disability that could possibly
interfere with full participation in this
course, please let me know at the beginning
of the course and I will make the necessary
arrangements.
Grading System:
Four tests will be given in this course, a final
examination and two laboratory tests. The
four tests will make up fifty (50%) percent
of the overall grade in the course.
Laboratory will make up 25% and the final
examination 25%. (50%+25%+25%=100%).

Introduction to course; explain the grading
system and class expectations. Begin
discussing chapter one, Introduction to
Human Body. Life Processes and
Homeostasis
Session 2: 8/25
Laboratory Microscope and Anatomic
Terminology
Session 3: 8/30
Basic Anatomical Terminology of the body
and medical imaging. Begin the discussion
of chapter 2, The Chemical Levels of
Organization.
Session 4:
9/1
Laboratory: Cellular Reproduction and
Tissues
Session 5:
9/8
Chemical Bonding and Chemical Reactions,
forms of energy and chemical reactions in
the body. Organic compounds and inorganic
compounds and solution will be discussed.
Session 6: 9/13
Begin discussing the Cellular level of
Organization. Parts of the cell, and
transport across the membrane will be
discussed.
Session 7: 9/15
Laboratory: The Integumentary System
(Skin and its accessories) Give out review
sheet with topics that will be covered on
lecture test one.
Session 8: 9/20
Begin the discussion of the Tissue Level of
Organization. Types of tissues will be
discussed. Review for lecture test # one
Session 9: 9/22
Laboratory: Human Skeletal System; Lecture
test one (chapters 1-4)
Session 10: 9/27
Begin discussing the Integumentary System,
the skin and accessory.
Session 11: 9/29
Laboratory: Articulations (Types of Joints
and functions)

Continue the discussion of the
Integumentary System and begin discussion
of the skeletal system (Bone Tissue)

Laboratory: The Human Skeletal Muscle
System. Give out review sheet covering
topics covered on test two.

Discuss the Skeletal System (Axial and
Appendicular Skeleton)

Laboratory: Cat Muscle Dissection; review
