Main Focus: To evaluate and participate in rehabilitative programs helping students to engage in the specific activities that make up daily life. Job Responsibilities: The role of the OT is to work on fine motor skills, visual motor integration skills, postural stability, handwriting skills and sensory integration. The OT will work with students both on an individual basis and in groups; also go into the classroom to work with classes as a whole. The goal is to facilitate a child's best performance in the classroom and provide the classroom teacher with classroom accommodations to help make learning as stress free as possible. .The OT will be responsible for providing therapy services to multiple sites (K-12). School-based occupational therapists focus on two primary areas: assisting special needs students get the most out of their education through various programs and preparing students to lead productive and independent lives by helping them learn vital personal and selfmaintenance skills; when possible, these therapists also help students learn skills that will help them find a job after they complete their education. This position requires direct interaction with the students, as well as the development and implementation of educational plans with instructors, administrators, and parents. The Occupational Therapist will be able to help students with Attention, Arousal and Sensory Processing, Gross Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills, and Self-Help Skills. This therapist will be helping students to engage in the specific activities that make up daily life. Meets the student's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results Helps student develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensor motor, educational, recreational, and social activities Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest. Help students improve decision making, abstract reasoning, memory, sequencing, coordination and perceptual skills using computer programs. Select and recommend activities that will help students learn life-management skills consistent with their needs and capabilities. Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating student's progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
