<Report Title: brief, clear, seven to eight well-chosen words> Whirlwind affiliation information Course:____________ <FIRST DRAFT> or <FINAL COPY> (whichever it is) Name Lab section Lab TA First Draft Due Final Copy Due Abstract < about 1 page, 1-2 paragraphs, 250-350 well chosen words> i Table of Contents Introduction ....................................................................................................................1 Lab Methods ..................................................................................................................1 Analytical Summary 1 Experimental Equipment and Procedure 1 Lab Observations ...........................................................................................................1 Results 1 Discussion 2 Conclusions ....................................................................................................................2 <Note: The Table of Contents is not listed, nor is the Abstract> ii Introduction <about 1 page stating Whirlwind’s technical motivation for the experiment, current design problems and technical needs> Lab Methods Analytical Summary < a 1-2 page summary of the analytical methods used. Reference the lab handout, don’t repeat it> Experimental Equipment and Procedure < a 1-2 page summary of the equipment and procedure referencing the lab handout> Example of equation format y 10 x cos(x)dx 0 <text continues here> Example of a Figure and its caption Figure 14. The Whirlwind Cab-over Design. This design was first used in 1950. Lab Observations Results <3-4 page presentation of analytical and measured results with explanation of what they are. Graphs should be clearly labeled. This section should contain short, clear declarative statements of the results in reference to your presentation of specific graphic or tabular data, 1 (1) which are also presented. Distinguish between "Figures," which are schematic drawings, photographs, graphs, etc. and "Tables," which are tabular compilations of data or computational results.> Discussion <3-4 page discussion of results and their application to the development of Whirlwind’s latest product. The principal task is to interpret the results, to note what is "as expected", what is unexpected, and what is of technical interest. The interpretation of the results in terms of the motivation for the experiment and its correlation to the current Whirlwind Corporation project should be the focus of the discussion. > Conclusions < 1 page giving conclusions in one or more simple (declarative) sentences. Remember that Whirlwind engineers are looking for concise statements that clearly tell them what your results and discussion have formulated. Make specific conclusions about how and why the technology investigated can be applied to Whirlwind Corporation’s new product design problems. > References 1. Walker, R.E., A.R. Stone, and M. Appendices Simple or lengthy calculations, or side issues that are not really in the main theme of the report, should be relegated to the appendix. A criterion for the deciding whether or not to put something in the appendix is to ask the question "Is its inclusion in the main body of the report required for the logical description of the investigation?" If the answer is "No", the item should either be left out or put in the appendix. 2
