MUSIC 1254: CHAMBER VOCAL ENSEMBLE (2 credits)

Course Description:
Literature studied and performed includes sacred and secular works from the 16th century to the
present.
Course Objective:
Students who successfully complete this course will:
1. Rehearse selections in various styles to develop both facility and authenticity.
2. Increase their skill in rehearsal techniques and ensemble performance.
3. Prepare and perform selections in a public concert or concerts.
Course Rules:
1. Students are expected to attend all class meetings. A total of two absences are allowed for any
reason without affecting your grade. If you exceed two absences, your grade may be lowered by
one-half letter grade per additional absence.
2. Students are expected to participate in all rehearsals.
3. Be on time to class.
4. Missed exams or quizzes can be made up with a doctor’s excuse or a documentation of an
emergency that occurred on the day of the test.
5. Do not bring children and/or guest to class.
6. Cell phone disturbances, including calls and texting messaging, are not permitted during class
periods. Please turn your phones off or set them to silent mode.

Attendance 25%
Weekly practice 30%
Preparation of assigned music 20%
Concert 25%
Grading System:
A=90-100%
B=80-89%
C=70-79%
D=60-69
F=59-below
Note: You must visit with a faculty advisor, a counselor, or on-line student service at:
http:studentservicesonline.hccs.edu/ prior to withdrawing ( dropping) the class. This action must be
taken prior to November 18, 2010 to receive a “W” on your transcript. After the MONTH-DATE
deadline, you will receive the grade earned in the class. If you decide simply not to attend the class, the
instructor will not drop you, and you will receive an “F.”
Other Recommendations:
Academic advisement concerning specific Fine Arts courses and degree plans is available to Central
College students during the academic semester. PLEASE SIGN UP IN THE Fine Arts Office (FAC 101) to
speak to a full-time instructor in your area of interest.

The Fine Arts Department at Central College strongly recommends that all HCCS students carry some
form of medical insurance to cover illness and injury, both on and off campus. Information regarding
low-cost health insurance for students is available in the Fine Arts Office. Under Texas state statute,
HCCS is immune to liability in the event of an accident or injury.
