Project Title: My Very Own Octopus
Project Goal(s): My goal was to have them create their own octopus puppet and write
their own story about it.
Process and Steps:
My second graders studied about sea creatures for science. Mr. Garcia read the book, My
Very Own Octopus by Bernard Most. Each student created their own octopus puppet with
one Brussels sprout, two wiggle eyes, two cloves for the ears, and four green pipe
cleaners pushed through the holes to be eight tentacles.

Where does your octopus live?
What is happening to your octopus?

Skills: listening, speaking, writing vocabulary of the sea: octopus, tentacles
2. How did you assess the children’s understanding? The children participated in the
webbing of vocabulary before writing their own story.
3. Where could you go from here? My students wrote their own story about their very
own octopus.

My students enjoyed working on this special SUAVE project! *(They typed their stories
on our computer.
