Detailed Course Outline MBA Bridge (BA 500) This course is composed of three parts, Quantitative Skills, Business Communications and Career Planning for a total of 30 contact hours as follows: Quantitative Skills (12 hours, 40%) Offers a refresh in basic probability and business calculus tools that are used in quantitative courses of the MBA Program. This probability part includes descriptive statistics with Excel, probability rules, discrete and continuous probability distributions, in particular Normal distribution. The calculus part includes notations, coordinate system, inequalities, graphs of simple functions, slope, systems of equations, functions, limit, tangent line, derivatives, convex and concave functions, maximum and minimum of a function. Business Communications (9 hours, 30%) Discusses strategies for effective business communications: oral and written. Topics include the process of writing: from first draft to finished document editing, removing hackneyed business jargon and getting to the point, syntax and format: how to write business communications, group writing: strategies groups can use to produce documents in one single, clear, concise voice, and oral presentation: do’s and don’ts. Career Planning (9 hours, 30%) Provides students with opportunities to learn about strategies designed to enhance individual career success in 21st Century organizations. Subject matter includes: changing nature of careers, finding the right career(s), interviewing and recruiting strategies, skills development, mentoring and networking, and other career development strategies. Career planning involves in-class discussions, group activities, personal assessment and analysis, and video illustrations. Student Learning Outcomes: Following this course students should be able to Demonstrate basic knowledge in calculus and probability theory as required in business applications. Present results through effective oral and written communications. Demonstrate knowledge of career development strategies.
