FIELD EXPERIENCE REFLECTION REPORT
(Common Assessment)
Program Student Learning Outcome #4- Provide an overview of schooling and classrooms with an emphasis on
the medical, psychological, social, and personal characteristics of exceptional students in the regular and
special education classroom.
Field Experience Reflection Report Description
At the conclusion of your 16 hours of direct observation/interaction in a public school or facility serving special needs
children, you are to write a 6-8 page report that discusses your observations in an essay format. You must also
document your time on the log provided by obtaining the signature of a school or facility authority after each of your
visit. You are REQUIRED to make arrangements with the school/facility as soon as possible but a minimum of one
week before you visit. Please note-a follow-up thank you note or call is essential to the maintenance of our program’s
professional relationship with our district/facility partners.
Field Experience Reflection Report Outline
Section I- Program Information
 Using information that has been made available on the selected special facility or school district’s website
and/or the Texas Education Agency school profile database, include basic descriptive data about the facility
or district, and the selected school and classroom.
 Be sure to include such information as: the number of students served both in the school and the classroom
observed, the percentages of students by gender and ethnic backgrounds represented, the types or nature
of disabilities represented, the number of students at various instructional levels (including remedial and
gifted).
Section II-Description of Instructional Strategies


Are students fully engaged in the learning process? What does the teacher do to motivate individual
students? How does he/she demonstrate enthusiasm for the content area or the specific learning
experience?
What instructional methods does the teacher make use of most frequently? How are the needs of the visual,
auditory, and tactile-kinesthetic learner being met? What does he or she do to incorporate or address the
multiple intelligences?
What instructional modifications are being made? What adaptive or assistive technologies are being used?
Does the teacher use content, resources, and strategies that respond to cultural, linguistic, and gender
differences? How?

Section III – Facilitation of Teacher-Student Interaction



Describe the classroom climate and the teacher’s apparent rapport with students. Does the teacher appear
to accept and have a positive relationship with all students?
What questioning strategies does the teacher use? How many questions involve higher order thinking skills
of the Bloom’s taxonomy levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation?
What type of feedback does the teacher provide students with?
Section IV –Facilitation of Instruction
 Describe the teacher’s classroom management skills including the class rules, daily routines, procedures,
and management of student behavior.
 How does the teacher demonstrate “withitness”? Handle transitions between activities? Handle “wait time”?
Be sure to give specific examples.
 Does the teacher utilize individualized learning objectives? Make adjustments to instruction based on
continual observations?
 Describe the classroom arrangement. Draw a floor plan and include it at the end of your paper showing how
the classroom is organized.
Section IV –Overall Summary



Discuss your overall reaction to the visit of the site and your observations of the school or facility setting.
Compare your observations to the information presented in the text and/or what you have learned and
discussed in class.
Tell what you did during your visits, detailing your particular contributions to the learning process of or
interactions with students.
Explain what you learned from this assignment. Be sure to give many clear examples and ideas regarding
how this experience might be of benefit to you in the future as you prepare later to student teach or when
you are employed as a beginning teacher.
