Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 15-1) - Automated Compliance Checks: FastLane will begin to run an additional 24 automated compliance checks on proposals to ensure they comply with (GPG). Better organization and tracking of activities resulting in enhanced cross-utilization of staff and the ability to prioritize workflow in a consistent manner. More detailed, complete and consistent metrics for proposals and awards providing tools to identify areas for increased efficiency and client support. To achieve this goal, ElectRx will simultaneously drive biological understanding and technology development. Specifically, ElectRx is looking to develop and leverage fundamental understanding of the anatomy and physiology of neural circuits in the spinal cord or peripheral nerves that mediate health status. This knowledge will be leveraged to design and demonstrate feedback-controlled neuromodulation systems for the direct regulation of immune system functions and CNS disorders. In parallel, technology development focused on next-generation minimally-invasive neural interfaces and biosensors will enable interaction with the neurophysiology of interest at unmatched spatiotemporal resolution, precision, and specificity. Deadline: February 25, 2015 2) Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award (R01) RFA-ES-15-003 An essential element of the mission of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is the support and career promotion of the next generation of exceptionally talented and creative new scientists who will further the understanding of the impact of environmental exposures on human health. The NIEHS supports a number of training and fellowship programs for pre and postdoctoral training, and mentored career development awards for faculty in the early stages of their career development. Along with these training and career development programs, NIEHS initiated a program of research grants for Early Stage Investigators, The Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award, that is designed to identify the best new biomedical investigators across the spectrum of science supported by the NIEHS (i.e., including basic mechanistic, clinical and population based researchers) and facilitate their establishing a vibrant, independent research program in the environmental health sciences. Deadline: February 27, 2015 3) Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Education, Outreach and Workforce Program 15-0002 FOA-15-0002 The ONR seeks proposals for developing innovative solutions that directly support the development and maintenance of a robust STEM workforce. The goal of any proposed effort should be to provide "game changing" solutions that will establish and maintain a diverse pipeline of U.S. citizens who are interested in uniformed or civilian DoN (or Navy and Marine Corps) STEM related workforce opportunities. Deadline: white papers due February 28, 2015 4) Chemical Security Improvement Grants (CSIGs) The U.S. Department of State’s Chemical Security Program (CSP) is pleased to offer grants to improve the physical and procedural security of chemical laboratories and facilities. These Chemical Security Improvement Grants (CSIG) contribute to the security of industrial and academic chemical facilities, including their employees and their communities, and aim to prevent the accidental or intentional misuse of chemicals. Deadline: March 01, 2015 5) Agnostic Compact Demilitarization of Chemical Agents (ACDC) DARPA-BAA-15-12 DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals to develop prototype systems for agnostic conversion of chemical warfare agents to inert material. Destroying bulk stores of Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) and their organic precursors abroad is a significant challenge for the international community. Deadline: March 02, 2015 7) Materials Innovation Platforms (MIP) NSF 15-522 The Division of Materials Research (DMR) seeks to significantly accelerate advances in materials research and engineering through the rapid discovery of new materials and phenomena by developing a new midscale user facility program - Materials Innovation Platforms (MIP) program. MIPs embrace the paradigm set forth by the Materials Genome Initiative (MGI) which strives to “discover, manufacture, and deploy advanced materials in half the time and at a fraction of the cost.” Platforms respond to the increasing complexity of conducting materials research that requires the close collaboration of multidisciplinary teams who have access to cutting edge tools. Deadline: March 02, 2015 8) Research Coordination Networks (RCN) NSF 15-527 The goal of the RCN program is to advance a field or create new directions in research or education by supporting groups of investigators to communicate and coordinate their research, training and educational activities across disciplinary, organizational, geographic and international boundaries. RCN provides opportunities to foster new collaborations, including international partnerships, and address interdisciplinary topics. Innovative ideas for implementing novel networking strategies, collaborative technologies, and development of community standards for data and meta-data are especially encouraged. RCN awards are not meant to support existing networks; nor are they meant to support the activities of established collaborations. RCN awards do not support primary research. RCN supports the means by which investigators can share information and ideas, coordinate ongoing or planned research activities, foster synthesis and new collaborations, develop community standards, and in other ways advance science and education through communication and sharing of ideas. Deadline: March 02, 2015 9) US-Russia University Partnership Program (UPP) Partnership Funding To further its goal of promoting collaboration between higher education institutions in Russia and US, the University Partnership Program (UPP) is conducting a two-stage partnership funding competition for projects proposed jointly by Russian and US colleges and universities. The competition consists of two independent stages: Contact project funding and Linkage project funding. The Contact stage provides modest funding for partnering institutions to design more substantial Linkage proposals. Pairs of institutions are welcome to apply for both stages or to apply directly for Linkage project funding. Deadline: March 02, 2015 10) Fiscal Year 2015 Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program (YIP) ONR-15- FOA-0006 The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is interested in receiving proposals for its Young Investigator Program (YIP). ONR's Young Investigator Program (YIP) seeks to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who are in their first or second full-time tenure-track or tenure-track-equivalent academic appointment, have begun their first appointment on or after 01 Nov 2009, and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty members of Institutions of Higher Education (hereafter also called "universities") to the Department of the Navy's research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers. Deadline: March 04, 2015 11) International Research Scientist Development Award (IRSDA) (K01) PAR-13-072 The objective of the International Research Scientist Development Award (IRSDA) (K01) is to prepare qualified individuals for research careers that will have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The IRSDA will provide salary and research support for a sustained period of “protected time” (three to five years) for intensive research career development, under the guidance of U.S.-based and LMICbased mentors, in the biomedical, epidemiological, clinical, biostatistical, social and behavioral sciences leading to research independence. Awardees must spend a minimum of 50% of the total grant period (and at least three months per year) physically in-country conducting research at the LMIC institution or at research sites in the LMIC. The expectation is that through this sustained period of research career development, awardees will launch independent global health research careers, continue to collaborate with LMIC scientists on research that addresses the health needs of their countries, and become competitive for new research project grant (e.g., R01) funding. Deadline: March 04, 2015 12) Graduate Research Internship Program (GRIP) PD 14-084 The Division of Graduate Education announces the Graduate Research Internship Program (GRIP) to provide professional development to NSF Graduate Research Fellows through internships developed in partnership with federal agencies (see the GRIP website for a current list of partner agencies). Through this initiative, NSF Graduate Fellows will participate in mission-related, collaborative research under the guidance of host research mentors at federal facilities and national laboratories. The internship experiences will support Fellows with developing expertise in critical STEM areas, enhancing professional skills, developing networks, and preparing for a wide array of career options. The sponsor agencies will benefit by engaging Fellows in mission-critical projects, helping to develop a highly skilled U.S. workforce in areas of national need. Deadline: March 06, 2015 13) NIH Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) Enhancing Diversity in Biomedical Data Science (R25) RFA-MD-15-005 The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) R25 program is to support educational activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research workforce. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on research experiences and curriculum development. Deadline: letter of intent due March 07, 2015 14) Resilient Synchronized Planning and Assessment for the Contested Environment (RSPACE) DARPA-BAA-15-08 DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals to create a revolutionary distributed planning capability to provide resilient command and control (C2) and manage complex military operations when communications are limited and unreliable. Resilient Synchronized Planning and Assessment for the Contested Environment (RSPACE) will develop human-centered software decision aids that, based on commander’s intent, will assist operators throughout the C2 enterprise with controlling daily operations in a complex battlespace composing mission packages (coordinating across the network as needed), responding to emerging opportunities, and assessing progress towards achieving commander’s intent. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice.
