NSF Communicating science broadly
In an effort to better promote discovery science and engineering to a wider range
of audiences, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has launched three new
multimedia communications vehicles: a video interview series with NSF-funded
scientists and program officers; a conversational style feature article; and a video
weekend wrap-up of NSF-funded science news.
NSF Automated Proposal Compliance Checks for Full Proposals Effective January
26, 2015.
Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 15-1) Automated Compliance Checks: FastLane will begin to run an additional 24
automated compliance checks on proposals to ensure they comply with (GPG).
Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) and the Office of Sponsored Programs
(OSP) announce the release of Activity Log
The Activity Log is a new web-based system tracking proposal and award activities
handled through OSP and Business-CONNECT, and it provides the following:
 Transparency for the campus community in viewing the status of a
proposal or an award negotiation.
 Better organization and tracking of activities resulting in enhanced
cross-utilization of staff and the ability to prioritize workflow in a
consistent manner.
 More detailed, complete and consistent metrics for proposals and
awards providing tools to identify areas for increased efficiency and
client support.
MSU Sponsored Projects’ Proposal Deadline Policy
College of Engineering’s Proposal Processing Timeline
The new policy requires that completed proposals must be provided to OSP at
least three full business days prior to the sponsor's deadline to be considered on
time. On-time proposals will take precedence over those considered late. Thank
you for your continued cooperation and commitment to improving the process of
proposal review, approval and timely submission. See the proposal submission
deadline policy for a more detailed description.

Armament Technology Broad Agency Announcement BAA-RWK-20140001
The objective of this program is to develop a conceptual design of an affordable
Air-to-Air seeker front end (optics/algorithms) for the aircraft self-defense role.
Miniature Self Defense Munition (MSDM) Seeker Conceptual Design
AFRL/RW is the primary Air Force organization concerned with conventional
munitions technology development. AFRL/RW plans and executes research,
development, and test of conventional munitions, and supports conventional
munitions Weapons Program Offices.
Deadline: March 23, 2015
3)
Fulbright-Hays--Group Projects Abroad Program
This program provides grants to support overseas projects in training, research,
and curriculum development in modern foreign languages and area studies for
teachers, students, and faculty engaged in a common endeavor. Projects may
include short-term seminars, curriculum development, group research or study,
or advanced intensive language programs.
Deadline: March 23, 2015
4)
Campus Cyberinfrastructure - Data, Networking, and Innovation Program
(CC*DNI) NSF 15-534
The Campus Cyberinfrastructure - Data, Networking, and Innovation (CC*DNI)
program invests in data and networking infrastructure and integration activities at
the campus and regional level, to support a range of scientific data management,
transfers and movement. The program also supports Network Integration
activities tied to achieving higher levels of performance, reliability and
predictability for science applications and distributed research projects.
Deadline: March 24, 2015
5)
Marine and Hydrokinetic Systems Performance Advancement II (SPA II):
Component Metric Validation DE-FOA-0001182
This funding opportunity focuses on achieving technical performance gains
through advanced controls, Power-Take Off (PTO) components, and innovative
structures. SPA II is a progression from SPA I, with additional emphasis on the
validation of component metrics, as well as crosscutting component applications
for marine and hydrokinetic (MHK) systems. These initiatives are part of a multiyear strategy to optimize MHK components in preparation for commercial-ready
system integration. SPA I awardee selection is not a prerequisite for the
application and selection criteria of the SPA II FOA. SPA II will support component
development projects in three topic areas that have the greatest potential to
increase annual energy production (AEP) while reducing levelized cost of energy
(LCOE).

Sustainable and Holistic Integration of Energy Storage and Solar PV
(SHINES) DE-FOA-0001108
The goal of the Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy,
SHINES Funding Opportunity is to enable the development and demonstration of
integrated, scalable, and cost-effective technologies for solar that incorporates
energy storage and works seamlessly to meet both consumer needs and the
needs of the electricity grid. Such an integrated solution should utilize smart
inverters, and be capable of working with smart buildings, smart appliances, and

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) funds research leading to
patient safety improvements in all settings and systems of care delivery. While
many researchers have endorsed a systems model as a way of thinking about
entrenched patient safety problems, there has been a scarcity of programmatic
activity that actually engages in new design and systems engineering effort, and
that is focused on more than singular patient safety concerns
Deadline: letter of intent due March 27, 2015
9)
