ARTC 1353 • Computer Illustration
Use of the tools and transformation options of an industry-standard vector drawing program to create complex
illustrations or drawings.
Course Content— These topics must be covered in this course
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the student will demonstrate skills in the software pursued:















Understand and the difference between Vector and Bitmapped imagery
Demonstrate substantial skills in the software application pursued through the creation of simple and
complex shapes
Utilize Transformation Tools/commands to modify and manipulate shapes
Utilize Pen Tool and Editing Paths Tools
Utilize Straight Paths and Curved Paths
Utilize Pathfinder Palette to enhance illustration accuracy and efficiency
Utilize Layers
Utilize type and the Type tools for design purposes
Create and utilize placed EPS files as a illustration aid
Utilize Gradients, Blends, Gradient Mesh, Transparency for illustration
Demonstrate technical knowledge and creativity in solving design and illustration problems conceptually
(with ideas) and in the pleasing manipulation of compositional elements (form)
Practice and strengthen interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines
Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality
Add to an effective portfolio.
Course Objectives
Identify terminology, advantages and limitations of vector software; use vector drawing tools manipulate, create, and
edit vector drawings for print or web; and specify file formats.

Course Requirements
Students will show that they know the difference between object-oriented and bit-map images. They will practice and
develop skills in the use of vector graphics software tools and commands. They will complete assigned projects and
make an effective addition to the professional portfolio.
