salient features of the oil and gas industry. Each student should be prepared to exit this course with a
more expanded view of this industry than when they first entered. Scholarship is the key and that is
what will be expected.
Course Description:
A snapshot-view of the entire petroleum industry will be undertaken. A
summary of the current knowledge and technical aspects will be reviewed with
regard to the various petroleum technologies i.e., geology, exploration, land
management, drilling, completion, production, transportation, marketing, and
refining.
Prerequisites:
None
Course Goals:
To enable the student’s awareness of the operational and salient features and
facts which comprise the oil industry and therefore, be able to communicate
with an enhanced knowledge base about this industry.

METHOD OF
INSTRUCTION:
A lecture format is used and the employment of power point slides and
handouts will supplement the material where needed. A more practical and
basic format of explanation will be employed so that the student will be able to
obtain a basic understanding of the oil and gas industry. Students are
encouraged to ask questions and will be expected to participate in class. It is
therefore important for each student to read the assignments and come
prepared to participate. If you miss a class you will be responsible to getting the
information missed.

Withdrawal Policies:

All students are required to be present during class sessions. Students must
communicate with the faculty in cases they need to be absent from a class
period. Withdrawal policies apply as they are described in the HCC policy, rules,
and regulations. All students must consult the HCC Student Handbook and
College Catalogue regarding withdrawal policies. In general three (3) unexcused
absences or an excess of five (5) tardies recorded will be grounds for dismissal.

All students are required to be on time for lectures and highly encouraged and
challenged to participate during lectures in the course.

A test will be given as described below for which the maximum score will be 100 points
per test. Final Exams- shall count for 70% of the Student’s grade. Pop Quiz and Mid-term
Exam will make up the remaining 30%.

A minimum of Two Projects - (100 Points each). Each project will be represented by a
minimum of 5 copies and maximum of 10 pages (or copies) word document/power
point presentation with the appropriate number of type written pages that adequately
describes the project given. It is important to note that the number of slides and
number of pages should not exceed Ten (10) and Ten (10) respectively. Students will use
internet and library resources to do their projects. All detailed explanations regarding
projects will be given to students for their assignments, projects, etc.

Evaluation for Greater Learning Student Survey System
