REVIEW FOR LEVEL 3 CONVERSATION MID-TERM TEST

1.

Identify open and closed questions.

2.

Give expanded answers to closed questions. No more than 3 sentences for each answer.

Purpose of brainstorming.

Two most important rules for brainstorming.

A. Define small talk. B. Know its purpose. C Know typical subjects( 3-5 ) for small talk.

Identify language styles-formal , neutral ( our book), and informal.

7.

Identify roles of members of small group activities (leaders, reader, each group member,etc)

Be able to divide words into syllables and mark accented syllable.

Example word: education Divide: ed u ca tion Accented syllable : CA

9.

Correct pronunciation of past tense verbs: /t/voiceless, /d/voiced/, ID

(added syllable after t or d sound in base word )

10.

Correct pronunciation of final S sound: /s/voiceless,/z/voiced, IZ(added syllable if word ends in sh sound)

11.

Give examples of the THREE different ways to encourage conversation

AND a follow up information question. Pg.38-39.

12.

Be able to change questions to embedded questions: “How much does it cost?” becomes “I don’t know how much it costs.” “Do you want to go to Paris?” becomes, “ He asked me if I wanted to go to Paris.” No question mark at end of embedded question. See handouts.

If absent, a different version of the test will be available in the Testing

Center for one week.

You will need to make an appointment to take test and must show ID on testing day.

NO make up tests given during ESOL class hours 12:00- 4:50 p.m. M-Thr.
