Stray Dog – Event Intro Script Thank you joining us! My name is <insert name>, and welcome to the first Indie Lens Pop-Up of this season, presented by <your organization> and <your local PBS station>. [Optional, only if you hosted Community Cinema screenings last season] If you attended screenings with us last year, Community Cinema is now Indie Lens Pop-Up! Our community-driven screening program now comes with great new features for all different types of viewers: inspiring activities and discussions, giveaways, and occasional raffle prizes. Today’s Indie Lens Pop-Up sneak preview screening is Stray Dog by Debra Granik. The film premieres on Independent Lens on PBS Monday, November 9 at 10/9c [NOTE: confirm with your local PBS station if there is a different local broadcast date and/or time], so please be sure to spread the word! [Optional - Pre-screening Audience Conversation Starter: Before we start the screening, we have a short activity to help you get to know your neighbors. Please take a look at this image. (Project the image at the end of the screening DVD that features a photo of Ron “Stray Dog” Hall and the Independent Lens broadcast date) What words and qualities would you associate with this individual? Please share your response with the people sitting next to you. (Provide a few minutes for discussion, and if time permits ask a few participants to share their thoughts with the group) Thank you for sharing your perceptions. The name of the individual in this photo is Ron “Stray Dog” Hall, and you will get to know more about him and his experience as a veteran as he is the subject of our film today.] From the director of the Oscar-nominated Winter’s Bone comes this portrait of a motorcycle-riding Vietnam veteran. There’s much more to Ronnie “Stray Dog” Hall than meets the eye; behind the tattoos and leather vest is a man dedicated to helping his fellow vets and immigrant family as he also comes to terms with his combat experience. We invite you to sit back and enjoy the film, but also to stay with us after and join the conversation. <Insert more about your engagement activity or special guests here.> Tell us what you think on social media using the hashtag #IndieLens and follow @IndependentLens on social media. Sign up for our newsletter in the lobby / follow us <insert social media handle> to receive updates on local Indie Lens Pop-Ups this year! A special thank you to our national partners: Independent Lens, ITVS, PBS, and CPB, and our local partners <insert your venue and community partners>. We hope you enjoy the show!
