Marissa Christman LIS506A, AS. #2 Purpose Brief I am creating a website for a skilled nursing facility (formerly called ‘nursing homes’) for elderly or otherwise disabled people. This fictitious nonprofit organization is called the J.W. Wingrove Skilled Nursing Facility and it is modeled after various real facilities in the area. Seeing as their main clientele are elderly, many such facilities refrain from hosting a website. There are, however, many reasons for nonprofit organizations such as these to develop and maintain a website. One practical reason is to promote the facility. Most elderly and disabled people seek these services at the behest of loved ones. More often than not, a family member will search for such facilities and start the enrollment process on behalf of the individual in need. Promoting the facility to these concerned loved ones is the site’s first purpose. Promoting the facility for the purpose of fundraising is the site’s second function, which will be made possible by its donation page. Such facilities rely heavily on donations. Nonprofit organizations also rely heavily on volunteers. This website will reach out to younger and more able-bodied people and convince them of the benefits of volunteering. What is more, the website will notify healthcare professionals near and far when the facility has an open position. This website is the best way for this organization to reach as many people as possible, perhaps resulting in a greater influx of volunteers and more competitive, and therefore more capable, workers. The website will also feature a page dedicated to increasing public knowledge about geriatric and long-term care issues and topics. Many facilities have wellness programs dedicated to improving the overall health of its community. By putting this facility’s health newsletter online, Wingrove can offer E-mail subscriptions and build a following among patients, their families, their friends and all others interested in health information. Ongoing Management Procedures Community Liaison Trichelle Speigel is in charge of the website’s content and she, in concert with Wingrove’s Webmaster, will design and maintain the site. Wingrove website maintenance is split up into the following categories, many requiring different procedures: 1. Textual edits to existing pages i.e. deletion of text, fixing of typos, changes in staff contact information 2. Repair of links, images, or formatting in existing pages of the CSS These edits and repairs above will be detected and fixed by the Webmaster alone. At this time, no other department or individual has the capability or authority to access web files. Any departmental requests or submissions must be sent via E-mail to the Webmaster and approved by the Community Liaison. 3. The acquisition of links and images for the ‘Educate Yourself’ page will also be the responsibility of the Webmaster but only after his/her weekly brainstorming meeting with the Health Educator, Pauline Breemer. The Webmaster will find and prepare the links and images to accompany the online health information newsletter, forward it to the Health Educator for review, edit it accordingly and then publish the material on the site’s ‘Educate Yourself’ page on a weekly basis. 4. Human Resources must submit changes in staff, job openings, titles, email or phone numbers on a weekly basis in response to the Webmaster’s weekly information update request. This personnel information is necessary to maintain the ‘Contact Us’ page. 5. Further website development is the responsibility of the Webmaster under the aegis of the Community Liaison. A monthly meeting will be necessary for them to discuss and execute the development plans for each month. 6. The Webmaster is also responsible for the following a. creating, publishing and following a maintenance schedule b. weekly page optimization and generation of a page optimization report c. registration with search engines, keyword development and metatag creation d. weekly usability scans and generation of a usability report e. performing weekly back-ups to a remote server f. monthly preparation of a brief website progress report
