Articulation Agreement between
College of the Canyons and National University
What is a Paralegal?
Paralegals assist attorneys in resolving lawsuits. They investigate the facts of a case; interview clients and witnesses;
perform legal research; draft pleadings, deposition notices, subpoenas, motions, briefs, discovery and other legal
documents; organize and manage files, documents and exhibits; file documents with federal and state courts; and assist at
hearings, arbitrations, mediations, administrative proceedings, closings and trials. Paralegals may not provide legal
services directly to the public, except as permitted by law.
Why a Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal?
This degree is approved by the American Bar Association (ABA). The Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies program is
intended to provide students with the professional skills required to serve the legal field effectively and ethically as a
paralegal or legal assistant. The program combines both a comprehensive academic curriculum and practical education in
the role of the paralegal in a legal environment. The curriculum is designed to enable students to understand and articulate
legal theory and apply it ethically to legal professional practice.
