Revenue Reporting – Excel
You will be utilizing your Excel skills and apply them to the Sales Process. As part of the assignment, you will determine
the correct amount of sales, cost of goods sold, gross margin, and sales in quantity that would be recorded by the
company for the first three months of 2016.
Required:

Step #1: Perform Analysis of the File attached below
You will open and perform work in the attached file that corresponds to the last number in your UB student ID number.
As these files are embedded, be sure to save the Excel file immediately before you begin working. Your goal is to
determine the correct amount of sales ($), cost of goods sold ($), gross margin ($), and sales in quantity for the company
for the first three months of 2016.

In the file, you will see the following worksheets:
Unit Cost – details inventory items with the unit cost per unit
Price List - details inventory items with sales price per unit
Invoices – details the invoices that were generated for sales based upon the quantity sold. Assume that all items are
shipped and invoiced on the same day and FOB shipping point is used.
Questions – in this worksheet, you will use Excel formulas to complete the total amounts for sales, cost of goods sold,
gross margin, and sales in quantity for the months of January, February, and March 2016. You need to complete the
table, providing formulas for a total of 12 items that need to be completed in the table.
The objective of this assignment is to determine how best to obtain the total amount of sales, cost of goods sold, gross
margin and quantity sold per month. All of the information you need to determine these values are provided to you in
the various worksheets. As with most things in Excel, there is more than one way to complete this. However, I would
encourage you to apply the lessons that we have learned in class and think about what is the most effective and efficient
way to complete the assignment with the greatest accuracy possible.

This Excel file will be submitted and reviewed as part of your assignment; therefore you should be using Excel formulas
and functions that were covered in class to obtain the answers to the questions. You should NOT be sorting and
summing or filtering to obtain the answers.
Examples of functions that I would expect you to use on this assignment include: vlookups, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, relative
referencing, absolute referencing, and/or pivot tables.
Required Deliverables to be submitted:
1. UBlearns Submission:
a. Excel file that includes the completed ‘Questions’ worksheet. This file will be submitted via UBlearns.
2. Completion of a Test in UBlearns:
a. Once you have finalized your answers in the Excel file, you will complete a test in UBlearns that
corresponds to the last digit of your UB student ID number. Be sure to have your electronic file nearby
as you will need to enter in the answers obtained for the ‘Questions’ worksheet. You will only be given
one chance to complete the test so make sure that you are ready to complete it before you hit ‘Begin’.
THINGS TO NOTE WHILE ENTERING IN YOUR ANSWERS INTO THE UBLEARNS TEST

All answers should be entered without dollar signs and commas.
If the answer you obtained is negative, put a minus (-) sign before the answer you enter
Enter all answers with two (2) decimal places
For example, if the answer you obtained is $872,903.12 you would enter in 872903.12 in UBlearns.
This is an individual assignment, therefore it is expected that you will submit your own, original work product.
Students who submit identical or partially identical work products will receive a grade of zero.
Please note: assignments MUST be submitted by the start of your assigned class time on the due date. Late
assignments will not be accepted.
Grading Guidance: This assignment is worth 25 points. The assignment will be based on the accuracy of your answers.
Therefore, please review your own work to ensure the accuracy of what you are submitting prior to submission and
prior to completing the UBlearns test.
