FINAL El Camino College Office of the President Minutes of the College Council Meeting of April 4, 2005 Present: Ms. Caldwell, Mr. Kelley, Mr. Gomez, Mr. Middleton, Ms. Pickens, Dr. Simon, Dr. Schwartz, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Stewart. 1. CEO Role in System Strategic Plan Process we need to identify 10 people to attend. The ASO representative asked whether a student would participate. This will be put back on agenda. 2. Academic Senate representative will be attending the Statewide Senate meeting this week. Issues of interest are the adoption of the White Paper about textbooks and the Senates involvement in Accreditation. 3. Accreditation. We have to select a new co-chair to replace Bobbi Villalobos. 4. Faculty Participation in Graduation will be coordinated by the deans of each division this year. Faculty participation last year was low (40%). Arizona State University gives each student a card to complete with their application for graduation. The card is an invitation for the student to give to an instructor to watch the student graduate. Ann Garten will share a copy of the form/card when it is received. 5. A.S.O. The students are hosting a fundraiser to induct past El Camino Student Leaders into the Corona Del Camino Alumni Service Honor Society on Friday, April 22nd from 4:306:00 p.m. There are sponsorship opportunities and flyers asking for support were distributed. Student elections are coming up. 6. Academic Affairs. Dr. Hata’s memorial dinner and the Cherry Blossom Festival were both great successes. We are going to get over 20,000 FTES this year. Our funded growth was 19,553. President Fallo wants to grow 4% above that. We are going to try and add 50 more sections to winter (from fall or spring). The winter schedule is being finalized this week. We may also move another 50 sections to summer. Our fall and spring numbers are down. Spring is down about 300 FTES. We are going increase advertising and marketing. 7. ECCFT. Lance Widman was awarded the CFT Ben Rust Award at CFT’s Annual Statewide Convention on March 19th. There is concern about the confidentiality statement being used in the hiring panels. The first concern is that this statement should be approved by the Academic Senate and the Board of Trustees before being put in use and it has not. There is also concern with the content of the statement itself in regards to personal liability. There are also two different versions circulating. Leo Middleton reported that the 2/8/05 is the only version that should be in use at this time. The Academic Senate package includes a 3/9/95 version for review and comment. Senate’s comments and concerns will be given to Tom Lew and Leo Middleton. Agenda for the April 11, 2005 Meeting 1. Minutes of April 4, 2005 2. C.E.O. Role in System Strategic Plan Process 3.
