Old/Pending Business
Formal Agreement with Gardena Police Dept. for Additional Training
Chief Trevis spoke with Chief Medrano at Gardena Police Department regarding
additional training. Currently they are not charging El Camino Police anything. If we
want to enter into an agreement, a cost factor is involved. Chief Medrano directed a
lieutenant to contact the chief. We are still trying to work things out. An updated report
will be given at our next meeting.
Procedure for Traffic Accident Reports – Memo
Chief will send out a memo regarding the procedure. If any police department
personnel are involved in an off-campus traffic collision with another moving vehicle or a
collision with someone on campus, another law enforcement agency should take the
report. If it is an on-campus collision involving a stationary object (bumped into pole,
planter), a memo with a detailed explanation is acceptable. If a collision has occurred
with a parked car on campus, ECPD can take the report. When an El Camino Police
Department personnel has collided into someone, we need to document very carefully
what occurred during the incident. Pictures of the injured party should also be taken.
Watchman’s Cap – 459 Cap
Kenny ordered a sample. When it comes in, he will bring it in.
NEW BUSINESS
Campus Watch
Campus watch went well this week. Attendance at the first two meetings was bad.
Yesterday’s meeting involved good conversation. There has been a glitch with the
Public Information Office who is responsible for sending campus wide reminder notices
about the Campus Watch meetings.
Does Josh need to put anything on ECPD webpage? He will create a separate section.
Chief Trevis will coordinate with Rocky Bonura to Campus Watch email notification to
the building captains.
Bonus Vacation
Staff must use any vacation days of 30 days as of June 30, 2009. The report is
provided by payroll. The excess vacation days must be used by must be used by
December 30, 2009. Grace created a monthly report which shows what needs to be
used. Staff has submitted requests for future vacation days which are also deducted
from the excess days.
Summer Bonus vacation days, which are different from the excess vacation days, must
be used by December 31. Days not used will be consider lost.
EC Compton Center Towing Company
Van Lingen/B&H Towing has been board approved. Kruger was the temporary towing
company for El Camino Compton Center PD. El Camino Police Department opted to
use one towing company only.
Police Units Parked in Staff Stalls/ ECPD Staff Who Don’t Display Parking Permit;
EMOC Truck
Police vehicles are found parked in staff stalls. The vehicles should be parked in the
sally port. Because the business building is being demolished, parking in Lot K is
impacted and every staff stall should be available for staff use.
EOC Truck – Officers are storing their items in the Emergency Operations Center Truck.
One of the computers was knocked off its bracket. Officers are not permitted to store
their items in the EMOC. The EMOC should be clean, free of clutter and available for
use at all times.
Training – Personal Vehicle/District Vehicle
When a police officer is scheduled for training and needs a vehicle to get to the training,
Sgt. Ott reserves a district vehicle for that person. If the officer decides that he/she is
planning to use the district vehicle, Sgt. Ott and Grace should be notified immediately.
Changing from a district vehicle to a personal vehicle creates a problem with the
amount approved for reimbursement.
A district van or Unit 51 will be reserved for use for police officer training.
Note: Dispatch should also be advised when a police department staff takes the district
van to training because this affects the night escort service.
When staff uses a district vehicle, District policy does not allow for family members to
ride in the vehicle.
Computer Log-On Switch Over
Effective January 1, 2010, everyone needs to physically log on and off on the
department computers under their own user name. If the staff member fails or forgets
to log-off his/her account will remain active and anyone can use that account.
Hygiene in Men’s Locker Room
Everyone should make a conscientious effort in applying proper hygiene in the locker
room.
ROUND TABLE
Nextel Officer #3 Phone
Nextel Officer #3 cell phone is at EC Compton Center Police Department. It is used
when an officer needs to contact the sheriff’s department for a URN or file number and
the LA Sheriff’s Department asks for stats.
If El Camino Police Department needs one more phone to replace the one that was
given to Compton, the department will order another one.
Josh Armstrong
When there’s a problem with the police units, notify Josh or Dean Starkey. Dean is the
fleet manager. If there’s a problem with the Unitrol, send Josh an email describing the
problem. El Camino Compton Center PD should also advise Josh of these types of
problems.
Lock Boxes – Can El Camino PD get the old lock boxes which Gardena Police
Department no longer needs?
Dal Toruno
Equipment should not be left unattended or not secured in the locker room. Police
vehicles should be locked when they are in the sally port.
Dean Starkey
The floors in the department are in bad condition and need to be replaced. The inside
also needs to be painted. Chief Trevis will speak with Bob Gann.
The meeting ended at 2:55 pm.
