Reminder to Apply for the 2016 NSF CAREER Proposal Writing Workshop – March 21-22, 2016, St. Louis
This excellent national workshop in March that is organized by K-Staters for NSF. The College of Engineering
will provide up to $500 for travel expenses for this event with a match of that amount from your
department if you are selected to attend. Sponsored by the NSF Division of Civil, Mechanical and
Manufacturing Innovation, the 2016 NSF CAREER Proposal Writing Workshop will be co-hosted by the
Missouri University of Science and Technology and Kansas State University. This workshop will cover the
basics of CAREER proposal writing and review. The application deadline is January 5, 2016. The application
procedure and tentative agenda for the workshop can be found
at: http://aries.imse.ksu.edu/nsf/NSF2016/main.htm. Contact Brad Kramer, bradleyk@ksu.edu, Dept. Head
and Workshop Coordinator for more information.

Additional Funds Available to Attend National CAREER Workshop
The national NSF CAREER training program (above) has been demonstrated to be highly impactful on the
future success of participants in receiving NSF funding in general and the CAREER award in particular. ORSP
is going to offer to cover up to $400 for junior faculty members to attend this meeting provided that those
who attend (1) submit to the 2016 NSF Career program, (2) submit a draft of their proposal to ORSP and a
separate technical expert 4 weeks before the program due date so that feedback can be provided, (3)
carpool to the event with others so that we can promote cross campus interactions, and (4) stay for the
entire program.

In Addition… Plan to Have Your Proposal Reviewed by ORSP Prior to Submission
All NSF CAREER submitters are encouraged to use the early proposal review process. The review will be
available to anyone who's submitting whether they go to the national workshop or have gone in the past. In
order to take advantage of this opportunity proposal materials will need to be submitted to ORSP at least 30
days prior to submission (earlier would be better) to allow for the review and feedback.
