It is designed for students entering health related fields such as Nursing. In lecture and lab we will study the systems of the human body. How they interact, and how they are regulated to maintain life and homeostasis. In this course we study the following systems: Integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, and endocrine. In addition, we study basic chemistry, cells, and tissues of the body. GENERAL GUIDELINES: 1. No absences. Each student is expected to be in class as attendance will be taken. Students with 4 or more unexcused absences will be subjected to administrative withdrawal from this course. 2. Participation in lab activities is expected and required. 3. Each student is responsible for the material covered in lecture, in the textbook, in the lab manual, and in the study guide. 4. Students are expected to participate in all scheduled examinations. Final lecture exam and two lab exams are mandatory and cannot be dropped. 5. No cheating. A student found to be engaged in any scholastic dishonesty on an exam will receive a zero grade for that exam and may face further disciplinary action 6. No extra credit options. Grades will be based entirely on lecture, lab exams, and lab reports. 7. Students should observe all safety rules in the laboratory, particularly during the laboratory exercises. Students work in groups during laboratory sessions, but individual contribution is required in the completion of laboratory reports. 8. All pagers and cellular phones must be turned-off during class sessions. EVALUATION: Four lecture exams and one comprehensive final will be conducted during the term to evaluate lecture materials and two laboratory practicals will be conducted during the term to evaluate lab materials and activities. The format of the lecture exams will be multiple choice, true or false, fill-in-the-blank and matching questions. The format of laboratory exams will be fill-in-the-blank questions.
