Requests Reviewed and Not Approved:

Request for pre-requisite modifications to fast track developmental math classes (MAT
051, MAT 061, MAT 071, MAT 081
The committee’s concerns included:
 Offering these courses as a full semester option negates the concept of the course
being intensive and fast-track. These courses were originally designed to give
students a credit version of the current CCE course. These are to a set of fast-paced,
15-hour, intensive review courses that cover pre-algebra, introductory algebra, or
intermediate algebra in a standard instructor/students format and shortened time
frame.

Current structure may lend itself to being a state audit exception. With a self-paced
option, if you incorporate additional course content or competencies from other
courses into more than one course this changes the original course design.
Concerns about student success. With these courses being a self-paced, module by
module environment there is concern about this structure being suitable for
developmental students.
Institutional concerns about the number of courses with pre-requisites that include the
developmental math courses but do not include these fast track courses. All courses
with these developmental math pre-requisites need to have their pre-requisite list
modified to include the fast track courses.
Pre-requisite curriculum requests are usually based on student data that has been
previously collected. Traditionally, faculty has identified a concern with student
success and then has requested the addition of a pre-requisite.
The committee’s suggestions:
 The committee is recommending that the Math division faculty consider a new
configuration of how to offer these courses. For example, offering these courses as
very short sessions with back-to-back options. The thought being that a student
needing these classes could complete several, in sequence, within a 16 week
semester. Having multiple terms within a semester and points of success or
completion for the student.


Program of Study revision request for Business Administration to add BAF 222, Money
and Banking as a technical elective. This is a core course for the Banking and Finance
Curriculum and as such cannot be offered in another curriculum.
Pre-requisite revision for ACC 120, Principles of Financial Accounting. This pre-requisite
revision required a higher level math than is required as a general education option in the
Accounting curriculum.
Next meeting will be November 23, 2010.
