Request addition of SPI to the Other Major Hours list. 4 Delete MED 272 (Drug Therapy) from the Associate Degree program and Add it to the Diploma program. This is in response to the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Advisory Board who request that the Medical Assisting students receive additional training in pharmacology so that they recognize categories of prescription drugs, are able to calculate dosages, and are knowledgeable regarding immunization schedules. Add MED 240 (Exam Room Procedures II) to Diploma program. This is in response to recommendation of the Medical Assisting Advisory Board who request that the students receive additional clinical training prior to their externship experience. This course will expand on MED 140 (Exam Room Procedures I) and add additional clinical skills and opportunities to interact with patients in a mock examining room setting. Delete MED 138 (Infection/Hazard Control) from the Diploma program. The concepts presented in this course can be more effectively presented in the actual clinical and laboratory settings that the student will encounter in MED 140, MED 240, and MED 150. Delete MED 276 (Patient Education) from the Diploma program. The concepts presented in this course can be more effectively presented in the clinical setting that will be created with the addition of MED 240 (Examining Room Procedures II). Delete MED 114 (Professional Interaction in Health Care) from the Diploma program and Add COM 110 (Introduction to Communication) . COM 110 offers a broader base of knowledge in communication skills. Delete MED 112 (Orientation to the Clinic Setting I). The skills presented in this class will now be presented in MED 140 (Examining Room Procedures I) with the additional lecture and additional laboratory hours. Delete MAT 115 (Mathematical Models) from Diploma program. The applied math skills needed by a medical assistant will be presented in MED 140, MED 240, MED 272 and MED 131. Delete MED 134 (Medical Transcription) from the Diploma program. With the increased practice of outsourcing of transcription by the medical community, this is no longer considered to be an important entry-level skill for a medical assistant.
