Proposals / Requests Reviewed:
1) Proposed changes in the Lateral Entry Certificate (C255340). The changes are being
requested to differentiate these courses from the Early Childhood curriculum courses and
have been discussed with other North Carolina community colleges offering this
certificate.
The committee reviewed the Lateral Entry Certificate (C55340) proposed changes and
had some additional requests.





The committee realized that there may be schools around the state that are
currently using these courses in their Early Childhood Education programs
so instead of a CCL course revision (form 15-2) a request for a new CCL
course (form 15-1) needs to be submitted.
They had a question about EDC 271. Does this change from a 4 credit hour
to a 3 credit hour course?
On the current Curriculum Standard there is Required Subject Area: Human
Development with EDU 244 or PSY 241. This was moved to Other Major
Hours and put in as PSY 241 and EDU 131 both can be taken in lieu of
EDU 244. The committee was not sure that this can be done. The person to
ask is Amy Bruining, the Director of Graduation (amy.bruining@cpcc.edu).
Under the state guidelines for course descriptions there is a maximum of 25
words. The course descriptions needed to be cut down to 25 words.
Since these are now new CCL courses these forms need to be to the state
office by January 26. The committee requested the changes to be made
quickly and an electronic voted would be conducted.
An electronic voted approved the modified Later Entry Certificate Request on January
31, 2008.

2) A proposed certificate, Autobody Repair with Specialization in Racing was presented.
The Curriculum Committee reviewed and tabled the Auto Body Repair Certificate with
Specialization in Racing. They expressed several concerns / questions.









There was a concern that the “Specialization in Racing” might be
misleading to students.
Are these classes specialized enough to apply to the racing or motor sports
management industry?
Has anyone pulled the new Common Course Library RCT courses that are
specifically for racing and motor sports management and compared these
new courses with the 4 that are listed for this certificate?
Are there any components in these four classes that are specific to the racing
or motor sports industry? Have these courses been redesigned in any way?
Would this certificate provide the student anything different than the other
auto body certificates?
Do the credentials of faculty teaching in the racing or motor sports
management differ in any way?
Could you market an existing certificate for the racing industry or at least
redesign this certificate with one of the new CCL courses?
Could CPCC apply to the state to offer the new motor sports management or
racing certificate?
Also, attached to the certificate was a marketing brochure which read “Auto
Body Repair with a Specialization in Racing Certificate for English
Language Learners. Could this certificate be re-titled to “Auto Body Repair
Certificate for English Language Learners” and leave out the specialization
in racing?
3) A proposed Certificate, a Business Administration Certificate with a Specialization in
Entrepreneurship (C25120-C3). This certificate was approved.
4) A Program of Study request to delete BUS 230 and replace it with BUS 245 in the
Business Administration curriculum. The committee tabled this proposal with a request
that the impact upon other curriculums that require BUS 230 for degree competition be
considered before this change is approved.
Next Meeting Time: February 20, 2008 @ 2:00 in TE 517
