Grammar Log Error Name # of times Original Sentence Revised Sentence Grammar Log Instructions For each essay we review, I will indicate the general errors. Your task will be to locate every instance of each error throughout the essay. Go through your paper and highlight or underline all your grammar that error, numbering them as you go. Then record the number of times you made that error. Finally you must record the first two instances of that error, and correct each of them, on the log sheet. I will, of course, expect you to correct every instance in the final draft of the essay. Example Issue: original: correction: p/a (pronoun antecedent agreement) Everyone worked hard to change their view. Everyone worked hard to change his view. Your grammar log for each essay will be due with the final draft of your essays. Be sure to save your logs since you must include it in your portfolio at the end of the semester Common Errors: 1) Capitalization – indicated by double underline meaning to capitalize, and a diagonal slash meaning to lowercase 2) Comma Splice – indicated by “c/s” 3) Faulty Parallelism - indicated by “f/p” 4) Format (incorrect paragraph or essay length, etc…) – indicated by “form” 5) Fused Sentence – indicated by “f/s” 6) Person (written in wrong person or mixing person) – indicated by “pers” 7) Pronoun Antecedent Agreement - indicated by “p/a” 8) Pronoun Reference – indicated by “p/r” 9) Punctuation – indicated by “punct” 10) Redundant Wording (repeating the same word without use of synonym) – indicated by “redun” 11) Run-on Sentence – indicated by “r/o” 12) Sentence Fragment - indicated by “s/f” 13) Sentence Structure (missing words or awkwardly structured) – indicated by “ss” 14) Spelling – indicated by “sp” 15) Subject Verb Agreement – indicated by “s/v” 16) Word Usage (using a word incorrectly) – indicated by “w/u”
