CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY BAKERSFIED MASTERS OF SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME LAST COMPLETED ON May 2014 The MSW program at CSUB has been accredited until 2015. The Department of Social Work at CSUB has been continuously implementing the comprehensive program evaluation plan that shows how effectively and systematically the social work program is measuring the competencies and skills set by CSWE’s (Council of Social Work Education) Education Policies and Standards. In 2012, Department of Social Work developed a new instrument, Pre Test Questionnaire, to measure the students’ competencies and practice behaviors. The instrument will generate pre and post data, which will be used to measure the students’ competencies and skills during orientation, completion of first year and before graduation to see if there is any significant improvement in the level of competencies and skills. All of the first year students took the Pre Test during Fall of 2012 and the Posttest during Fall of 2013. The Department replaced the previous field evaluation instrument with new instruments based on CSWE’s 10 competencies and associated practice behaviors. Here are major results of the analysis on the Pre Test, Posttest, and the Field Evaluations. 1 COMPETENCY COMPETENCY BENCHMARK PERCENT OF STUDENTS ACHIEVING BENCHMARK Pre Test Posttest Field Evaluation 2.1.1 Identify as a professional social worker and conduct oneself accordingly. 85% 17.8% 24% 56.8% 2.1.2 Apply social work ethical principles to guide professional practice. 85% 3.0% 4% 51.4% 2.1.3 Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgments. 85% 20.3% 28% 48.6% 85% 5.1% 2% 59.5% 2.1.5 Advance human rights and social and economic justice. 85% 19.8% 32% 43.2% 2.1.6 Engage in research-informed practice and practice-informed research. 85% 59.9% 74% 21.6% 85% 38.1% 44% 32.4% 2.1.4 Engage diversity and difference in practice. 2.1.7 Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment. 2 COMPETENCY 2.1.8 Engage in policy practice to advance social and economic well-being and to deliver effective social work services.
