Assessment/Testing

Thirty-four (34) out of forty-four (44) new computers were recently installed over a two-week period
beginning on 2/23/15. Ten (10) more are to come; these computers were funded via Student Success and
Support Programs (SSSP) funds.

ACCUPLACER went to a new platform on 2/23/15 and there have been problems ever since. On Sunday,
March 1, ACCUPLACER brought the system down and tried to correct the majority of problems. Some were
concerned not with the actual administration of the tests, but in getting print-outs of results and running
reports. Query set-ups were wiped out and then restored. There are still continuing problems. All users are
having issues—not just ECC. Staff is adjusting to the new Accuplacer platform.
CCCAssess has contracted with two vendors for the Common Assessment Test, which is to be rolled out
about a year from now. One vendor is to write the software program and the other to write the
questions. In order to receive SSSP funds, we must begin using the Common Assessment Test in lieu of
ACCUPLACER, which will be going away. (California only.)

First Year Experience (FYE)


The First Year Experience (FYE) program continues to recruit new students for the 2015-2016 Academic Year.
FYE Information Sessions are scheduled on most Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on-campus.
Prospective students and parents are invited to attend. Students who want to participate in the FYE program
are required to attend an FYE Information Session.
The FYE program is working on the educational partners associated with the South Bay Promise to recruit
thirty students from Centinela Valley Union High School District (CVUHSD) and thirty students from
Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD). As of late February 2015, the FYE program had received
approximately 150 applications from CVUHSD and approximately 45 applications from IUSD.
Title V Graduation Initiative

With Idania Reyes’ appointment as the new Director of Student Equity Program effective Monday, March 2,
2015, the Title V Graduation Initiative will be undergoing some significant changes. However, to help with
this transition, Idania has proposed working 50% as the Director of the Title V Graduation Initiative and 50%
as the Director of Student Equity Program for the month of March 2015. There are many on-going projects
at both El Camino College and El Camino College Compton Center that are currently being funded with Title V
Graduation Initiative funds. Guidance from the Vice President of Student & Community Advancement and
the Vice President of Academic Affairs is being sought on this proposal.

We continue to provide follow-up to the students. Primary needs are financial aid regarding letters

In February we completed the process to implement a pilot book voucher program with the Department of
Children & Family Services, Youth Development Services. The Pilot will be implemented beginning with the
summer and fall 2015 semesters. We began the process in October and it was completed after our classes
had started. Three other schools are also participating, Long Beach City Community College, Pasadena City

We continue to work with the John Burton Foundation around Priority Registration. The purpose of this
