II. DISCUSSION/ACTION
A. Draft Enrollment Management Plan: The framework was developed in 2005-06 to guide
Enrollment Management committee on its plan, vision, and purpose. The seven
components are Technology, Curriculum Course Scheduling, Student Services, Student
Recruitment, Market and Student Retention. Other discussion points:
1. What should Enrollment Management be about? Survival – more apportionment
reductions as FTES target will be reduced to 17,950 in 2012-13.
2. Enrollment Management plan should be more global. What is our vision? What is
overall view of Enrollment Management? To offer the best resources and teaching
the college can offer. Quality of services is important.
3. Provide and maintain student success.
4. May need to re-prioritize enrollment to provide in-district students greater access.
5. Implementation of student success legislature and changes and impact on enrollment.
Big impact in student success in basic skills. We are waiting on information from
legislature and Student Success Task Force discussion. What are the preliminary
steps to take? Encourage students to obtain an education plan.
6. Graduation initiative with Math department: Diagnostic tools before taking
placement test, complete assessment, Math Academy – students can complete faster
path.
7. Key piece of Student Success Task Force recommendation that students start basic
skills in first year or lose priority registration.
8. Six steps that the Chancellor focuses on Student Success Task Force. Each of these
strategic initiatives include some action steps of Student Success Task Force. Need to
decide which initiatives can be implemented:
 Common Core State Standards
 Common Assessment
 Enrollment Priorities
 BOG Fee Waiver Requirements
 Student Success Score Card
 Student Support Initiative
9. Use a score card method by obtaining information from Institutional Research to
measure outcomes.
10. Prepare first time students early by implementing a block schedule. Require these
students to take English, Math, and Human Development orientation course. Course
scheduling would help in planning of courses the first year. Start with students from
Project Success, Puente and FYE. As an incentive, those students participating in
block scheduling can receive priority registration.
11. Course scheduling, student retention – work with deans to work on major initiatives
to implement.
12. Review what is in plain builder – discuss timeline and information the College is
looking for and submit what are in the categories. Need a global vision.
13. Look at accelerated or compressed courses.
14. Start with condense classes and block schedule will affect success and retention rate.
Are we turning away students that will be succeeding? Do we have control over
students we do not service? Some students are turned away by the three repeat
policy.
15. The Accrediting Commission and indications by the state and federal, there is a need
to increase the number of degrees, transfer rate, and student success.
16. Student Success Task Force initiative will force students to show they have the ability
to succeed. Enhance basic skills and make students successful.
