The meeting began at 2:05 p.m.
I. INFORMATION
A. Notes of April 18, 2013: Distributed and reviewed.
1. Notes were approved with no changes.
II. DISCUSSION/ACTION
A. How In-District Groups are Determined by the Registration Algorithm (Mulrooney)
1. Starting summer 2014 registration, first time freshmen from feeder schools who complete 3
requirements will receive priority registration. Possible deadline for students to complete 3
requirements (orientation, assessment, and Ed plan) to receive priority registration could be
one month before registration date. Need to notify feeder schools early of the priority
registration dates. Need to create a detailed production calendar. Priority registration for
Summer 2014 will probably begin on the Tuesday after the “W” deadline. Will co-mingle
summer and fall registration.
2. Manual process to remove students who do not meet prerequisites (i.e. students who
registered for fall class but did not pass the prerequisite class in the summer).
3. Residency, prerequisites and eligibility to register are main registration questions students
ask.
4. Registration Help Line opens next Tuesday May 14th.
B. Data for In-District Groups (Pineda)
1. Add FYE Torrance and Compton to Tier C on Enrollment Priorities Counts Fall 2012 list:
there were 400 students for Torrance and 145 for Compton.
2. One student for Compton ASB - count may be due to coding issue. Compton will work to
input correct codes manually in Colleague STAL screen. Student government had priority
registration before student clubs.
3. Seemingly high total count for EOPS and DSPS for both campuses because Compton has
over 2,000 EOPS students.
4. Recommendation was made to remove the word ‘eligible’ on the Enrollment Priorities
Counts Fall 2012 list – does not pertain to the orientation, assessment, and Ed plan
requirements.
C. Discussion on In-District Groups
1. Discussed proposal made to keep in-district group priority registration on hold for another
year because of preparation for Student Success Act mandated requirements, Accreditation
and MIS reporting.
2. Discussion took place regarding new EOPS students who will not have priority registration
because they will be considered new EOPS students at the start of Fall 2013 in August.
3. ITS will need detailed descriptions on programming conditions for priority groups. EOPS
may be the only exception. Veteran and Foster Youth students must be verified by each

program. Discussed conditions Veterans can be eligible for priority registration.
Discussed orientation, funding and resources. What qualifies as orientations? Orientations
must cover/include mandated topics. Multiple types of orientations (i.e. program, classroom)
can quickly use up orientation funding apportionment. Are there enough resources to meet
demands? Are there enough counselors working a 10-month schedule to provide Ed plans
for 29,368 students?
What if Cabinet does not approve the committee recommendation to maintain status quo?
Cabinet feels it’s not fair to the remaining students to have too many groups/students
currently on the priority list. The committee will need to develop a strong, written rationale
for Cabinet to agree to remain status quo. W. Garcia, D. Reid, and R. Dreizler will work
with B. Mulrooney to develop the rationale to present to Cabinet. They will bring the final
proposal to the next meeting for approval.
D. Other Issues
1. Changes in processes need to be identified and shared early on in the process so that the
same information is given to students by all staff. Outreach had been advising high school
students to use math pre-transfer charts in the testing office but discovered there is a new
chart in the fall schedule (with Math 67). The Counseling representative on the Curriculum
Committee should alert Outreach and Testing for changes in curriculum. Ways to
communicate information – email blast on listserv, post on ECC website. Notification to
students in a timely manner is most important in improving communication issues,
especially when it involves transferring.
2. Financial Aid will no longer offer student loans beginning Fall 2013 and will verify income
for BOG eligibility.
III. NEXT MEETING
The next Enrollment Management meeting will be held on May 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Library 202.
The meeting adjourned at 3:35 p.m.
